Hi all

Just need to vent... My OH and I have finally now been ttc long enough to qualify for NHS funding (2 years), so I went to see my GP about 6 weeks ago to get a referral. All the paperwork was completed on the spot and I've been waiting patiently to get an appointment from the clinic, but no news. So, I called the clinic this morning to find out what was happening, and, surprise surprise, my fecking useless GP never made the referral. I'm absolutely furious... 6 more weeks wasted. Am going to see the GP on Thursday (she's on leave at the moment) and it's going to be very hard to remain polite with her. It's not the first time this GP surgery has really let me down - is there anywhere I can complain to?!

Thanks
xx

Hi

Sorry to hear that this has happened. It's really crap.
Your surgery will probably have it's own complaints procedure - you could try speaking to the practice manager.
Good luck for your appointment. Hopefully this time she'll pull her finger out and actually refer you

((hugs))
xx

Thats really frustrating! Grrrr.... winds me right up that does, our GP surgery lost our blood tests. I'd write to the partners of the surgery
xxx

sorry to hear your being let down, i would write to the practice manager if there is one. if not i think that there would be a complaints procedure for your local PCT. Good luck let us know how you get on xx

That's awful, so sorry to hear that. I am always really paranoid about GP's and so I try to pester them and double check everything as you can't trust people and they are controlling your life etc.

I would try and request that you are shifted up the waiting list a bit as you should have been there already. I've read some people who were forgotten have been put up a bit on the list so suggest that and try not to take no for an answer! It's their mistake and they should do their best to correct it!!

Best wishes x

Thtas very frustrating for you. - I got my letter of referral from the doctors surgery and sent it direct to the clinic myself to make sure nothing could go wrong. Perhaps they would organise that for you too?

grrrrr WHY do they not understand how important this is to us? I know a few people - myself included - who have been victims of GP cock ups. Mine requested all the wrong blood tests so I had 2 weeks waiting in fear for my PCOS diagnosis and there were no results! So another 2 weeks quivering..... Speak to the reception and ask what their complaint's procedure is. x

Thats awful - mind you. I went to the Doc's beginning of Dec in the hope they will do something, and each time i think i'm a bit closer they tell me i need another test doing.

I've had 5 blood tests, Transvaginal Ultra Sound, Vaginal Swabs, DH Sperm Analysis, Specialist Visit for High Prolactin (turns out GP thought it was high, when the specialist said its not a worry!) spoke with GP on Friday hoping that was it - but no she said we forgot to test one hormone.......i cant be referred till its been done either! so it will be end of march by the time i get referred and there is currently a 35day waiting list for fertility clinic in my area!! 5 Blood tests and they forgot to test my progestrone levels to check if i am ovulating - would have thought this would be one of the first things thet check!

Feel like a human pin cushion

sorry to jump in on your rant, just thought i'd add my monies worth too

Thats rubbish too misskat! It's like our GP telling us my OH's result for SA was fine and yet when I decided I wanted to pick up report to see it in more detail I saw the morphology was 2%!!!

When my OH phoned him up to say wtf he said "I didn't know how this would affect ttc and thought it was fine" so my OH said "maybe you should have checked or done some research before you go making me think that all is well!"

We could have wasted months and months trying when we've already tried for quite a long time and i'm just so glad I decided to double check everything!

rant over for me now too! haha!

Thanks for all the replies ladies. :hugs::hugs: It really annoys me that these problems seem so common... I know GPs can't be specialists about everything, but they should be able to follow basic procedures and at least check when they are unsure about something, rather than give out incorrect advice.

Anyway, I went back to see the GP today. She was very apologetic and said that the referral had been made correctly, but the details must have been lost by the fertility clinic and that she had re-submitted my details yesterday 'just to be safe'. I'm not sure I believed her, but I wasn't able to get angry about it, as half an hour before going into the surgery I got my first ever BFP, cycle no.23 of trying!!! I'll stay in the system now anyway so if this doesn't stick I'll be able to go straight back to the fertility clinic. Let's just hope I don't need to rely on the flakey GP too much in the future!

Such fab news honey, congratulations and lots of sticky dust to you xxx

congrats on your BFP
Don't be too hard on your GP...... yes she may have made an error but there are lots of steps in the referral pathway so the mistake could hav been made somewhere else.
I work in a GP surgery and I know all the ins and outs......... There are more pathway steps once the referral has left the GP surgery. Mistakes happen and can be at the hospital end.

good luck
x

YAY!! I'm so pleased for your BFP.

Hope you have a happy healthy 9 months x x

Thanks loads for all your congratulations! Am keeping my fingers crossed that we see some more BFPs soon.

Mrs RH - you are totally right, it may not have been the GPs fault, but this particular surgery is utterly useless... so far they have lost all my previous gynae records (and refused to repeat the investigations), sent my blood sample off for the wrong tests and, when they finally managed to do the right tests, gave me the wrong results! Goodness only knows how they'll manage over the next few months! x

Ooooooh congratulations! Best of luck, hope it's a sticky one. xxx
