Real Christmas Tree Q!

Has anyone ever dug up a christmas tree (like 5ft/6ft) with the root ball and successfully potted it to have indoors over christmas? Or are we crazy?
(It is a VERY big pot!)

We hope to do that this evening, hubby reckons it'll have to sit outside and 'adjust' before it comes inside though.

It's likely to drop it's needles in the heat I think. Plus we bought a potted tree one year (intending to plant it outside afterwards) and all kinds of creepy crawlies kept emerging from it once it was in the house, it was planted outside early and an artifical one bought instead

Why not decorate it outside with LED lights and bird feeder decorations?
