Hi all,

Since having my last lb my periods have been really heavy and about 3 1/2 weeks apart. I use maxi tampons and pads together and have to change both every 2-3 hours. I was going to go and see my GP and ask if he could prescribe me something to slow down the flow. I've decided to go down the herbal remedy route first. The only thing is I've Googled it and there is so many different suggestions that my brain is frazzled lol

I'm thinking maybe trying Lady's Mantle or Shepherds Purse?

Has anyone used these and had good results?

Has anyone used something different they can recommend?

TIA x

My advice would be to go and talk to your GP.
I had terribly painful and heavy periods and they were really good with me. I didn't want to go down the medication route as my husband has had the snip and I didn't want to pump hormones into my body if I didn't need to.
They did tests and then when they were clear, they did scans...and when they were clear, then they started looking at how to treat my periods.
They offered me tablets to stop or minimalise the flow along with all the contraception options which I didn't want....so my only option to move forwards was the coil. Personally I didn't want to try the mirena, but if I didn't give it a go they couldn't help me further as it is their new protocol so I was told.

Anyway, my point is to go and talk to your GP, they have to be trained in alternative medicines as well :) but always a good idea to get everything checked out at the same time too xx

Thank-you for your reply. That's something I'm not keen on either is any sort of birth control for myself. I'm a proper bitch when I'm full of hormones.
I'll go and see my GP when I get a chance. Like you said it's better to get checked out and maybe they can recommend some alternative medicine instead.x

I was dead against a mirena could but the gynae talked me into trying it when I was in for my appointment re sterilisation and endometrial ablation. It has literally changed my life.

She explained that although it does contain hormones they act locally within the womb rather than through your entire system like the pill or injection does.
