really pisses me off that ...

Not many people can afford a mortgage these days. I think maybe you should count your blessings and not your shortcomings.

I'm not moaning that we can afford a mortgage. We worked hard to be able to afford it! Scraped every last penny we had together so of course im grateful but alot more people could probably afford it if they save like we did.
People make a choice on whether to spend or save & we chose to save. That shouldn't mean we get punished for it by not being allowed benefits.

You're being punished because you're not entitled to benefits?

This country makes me laugh.

I'm being punished because me & my OH have tried our hardest in life to get a good job & earn money.
It's the same through school - i never got EMA, never got free school dinners, My friend got her ski trip for 200pound we had to pay 800pound all because my parents have tried hard in life to get where they are.

We deserve the benefits as much as anyone else does.

You may deserve them as much as everyone else. But you don't need them as much as everyone else.

If you can afford to buy a house, and clothe your children, and feed yourselves I don't really see an issue.

Maybe we don't need them as much, ill give you that, but that shouldn't mean we can't get them.
So many people where i live just get pregnant for all the extra money & dont actually spend any of it on their children.
Just because my OH earns a decent amount doesn't mean he spends it all on the LO (luckily he does, but they dont know that)
It just annoys me that even the people in charge tell me to lie to get more. Its wrong & unfair.

It isn't always fair, and it isn't right, but this country is in such a mess that they can't fix it anymore. They can't take money away from the people having babies to get money without taking it away from the people who have genuinely ended up in a bad situation.

I do think you should be thankful for what you've got though and not let it get to you. You and your OH should be proud of what you have achieved and know that there are probably a bunch of people stuck on benefits (a few in my OH family actually) who will never find their way back to the real world and it's really sad. They have no future or anything.

It's absolutely ridiculous I think! I won't be entitled to many because I'll be in education, which makes absolutely no sense!! The benefit system is such crap! x

I understand exactly what your saying & i know there is nothing i can do about it but just needed to let it all out & rant to be honest.
I am more thank thankful & very proud for what we have managed to achieve at such a young age but there is also a lot i have had to give up to get where i am too.
Luckily we both have brilliant supportive families so i know we are never going to struggle, but if our families weren't so supportive we would never of got a mortgage & wouldnt of got a council house either & we would have to stay living at mine for many years to come.

I didn't know education effected it?
I'm sure you will still get income support (50 a week?) & the 20 that everyone gets.
You should also get child tax credit shouldn't you?
I really don't know as ive gave up looking into it all.
Ooo you'll get the maternity grant too.

But yeah it really is crap! xx

My sister worked in with the benefits/tax system and said I'll only be entitled to the £20 a week because ill be in full time education so apparently the governments thinks that should mean my parents should be supporting me, but I don't know how that is fair?! Luckily I have a job so Ive paid everything so far but I only get about £100 a month so no where near enough and as ill be in school I doubt ill have time to carry it on! and it says on directgov you only get the maternity grant if you don't have anyone else under 16 living in your house, and my sisters 14 :S Makes no sense it's all so confusing? xx

Oh right.
That is crap!
Im sure pretty much (nearly) everyone can get the maternity grant!
Ring them up if i was you & find out for sure, 500 is a lot of money! xx

Yeah I definitely will when it's nearer the time! I don't see why I can't get a grant just because my sister lives with me! Surely that would make me more eligible as there's more dependents living with me?! It's so stupid! xx

Have you tried looking into claiming housing benefit to help each month? We were in band B for a council house, but OH got a job and we got told we were less of a priority so got moved to band C but were told if we privately rent then we can claim housing benefit to help us each month so were gonna do that considering I'll be on maternity leave and he will be the only one working. Also, my sister and her bf have a council house and both them work, so you could still apply for it and see how long it would take you to get a place. Suppose now you got a mortgage you don't need to, your lucky though.. God knows how I'd scraps together the deposit let alone the monthly payments x

Yeah we dont qualify for that either lol weve lppked at everything literally. Jyst gotta accept tgat were not gonna get any help :) xx

Quite frankly this country is s**t if you work hard you get nothing if you do nothing you get everything. Of course there is a place for the welfare system but people play it so badly and its abused left right and centre.

^ Totally agree! No wonder so many young mums leave education, because they simply can't afford to carry it on and so end up with crap jobs and create the negative image of 'teenage mum with no qualifications and living off benefits' not to say that's everyone and I know it is not their fault, its totally the governments.. just my opinion! x

I get why your upset because the govt. make it harder by not providing help but we are a nanny state, they provide help to those who most need it which is expensive. TBH i think you deserve help more than the junkies and dole monkeys that get it (no offence by dole monkeys, i use this term only for those who definitely screw up interviews to stay on the dole; yes it happens!) Really pisses me off that these people receive so much help, the junkie that broke into ours gets methadone at our local pharmacy, has free accomodation, gets the dole and is riddled with stds...only reason i know this is because the police totally freaked when they had seen injuries and needed to be sure no blood/spit etc didnt get ransfered (thankfully it didnt) but with all that help he gets free is most likely more help than what my mum gets for disability and it makes me so mad! I think help should be given to those who NEED it and have no choice but to receive help and if you need some help to live it should be given to you instead of to all the people who CHOSE to do drugs ...

I'm all for people getting the benefits that need the benefits but like you said people mess up there interviews on purpose just so they don't have to work etc! When theres people out there like me & OH (who could do with the support) & genuine people that actually need the money!
Ill be honest, my grandad got free accomodation, he was an alcoholic & turned to drugs before he passed away so i'm not some biased snobby person i just feel like it should be for everyone or no one.
