So this is my third baby. I've got a son and a daughter that I had with my ex husband and now me and my partner are having our first baby togther..
Anyway my son is 9 and when I found out he was a boy I so badly wanted to call him Harry but my ex really didn't like it so after trying hard to change his mind I gave up and chose Jack.
So fast forward 9 years and I'm pregnant again. I asked my oh if he liked Harry and he said he loved it! Well as you can imagine I'm over the moon with that! And it was pretty set in stone that that would be our boys name!
So the oh comes home last night and tell me one of his good friends (who are having a boy) have picked the name Harry.. I know it's silly to be upset but I've loved this name for 10years!
It's silly because I don't even know if I'm having a boy but I was just so happy that I could possibly finally have my Harry.
Anyway sorry for the rant I just needed to get it off my chest.. Silly hormones! X

I understand how you feel. I'd love to name a boy Henry or Charlie, after my gran (henrietta) or my father (Charles) and have talked about this since I was very young. My OH has said a solid no to both and it is really upsetting when you've had your heart set on something.
At the same time, in my OHs family there is a tradition of calling all first born boys Michael - a name I do not like. Despite it being okay to say no to my names, when I then did the same and said for fairness the baby should not be named after either side of the family, i got a little bit of a hard time, and regularly get guilt tripped.

I would still use it hun, there'll always be someone with a child that has the same name.
An alternative with be to use Henry or Harrison but call him Harry. But me myself would just use Harry x

I did say to my oh that i still wanted to use it and he said ok. And I do know Harry is a fairly common name but having a Jack and Evie I'm not bothered about it been a popular name it's just nobody close to me or him has ever used that name and we all socialise In the same social group. However I am still going to use it it's just tainted it a little that's all. Xxx

Oh I love both your boys names!! Henry is our second fave name! And Charlie is my kids step brothers names but I do love them. I'm not keen on Michael at all so I can see why you didn't want to use that. I agree if you can't have yours he shouldn't have his.. What names are you liking? We can't agree on any girls names!! Haha X

I know how you're feeling. I've always wanted to name my son Joseph. My husbands family has an initial thing they do with boys. They alternate LH. My husband is Lucas Hewitt so our son had to a HL (which I was really okay with) so we went with Harrison Link.

I asked him if this one is a boy could we do Joseph and he pretty much vetoed it even though he agreed we don't have to keep doing the LH HL thing since we did it once.

At least there is that. Haha

If we have a girl the name is Amelia and my husband has a cousin with a daughter named Amelia and we don't care! :)

It'll be okay. Every name is going to have a tie to someone you know. There were probably 15 Crystals in my classes growing up. :p

If it's a boy, still call him Harry! I wouldn't let that stop you x

Thank you ladies you've all made me feel loads better! Guess I was just upset but it's our baby and it will be named what we want. How are you all coming on with names? X
