Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Ttc - im half a success story with the use of Prednisolone steroids, I had 6 losses but for pregnancy no7 I had steroids, I had a placental abruption at 27w

So the steroids worked for me then I had a totally unrelated disaster

Xx

My due date is next week :(

I should have been bringing Isaac home anytime now

I don't have much to report, waiting for an appointment with mr Shehata, they want to review my antenatal care with Isaac so are going to request my records .

I have also requested my records and they seem to have gone AWOL for time being possibly :( the medical records office sent then to my consultant for review, she is then meant to send them back so they can be copied for me. They have to do it within 40 days and I'm on day 50, I thought it was day 52 but i worked it out wrong

It's distressing me immensively as those records hold a lot of answers. It's dawned on me today that there must have been a period of over an hour where they didn't check Isaac heartbeat. They only checked on arrival and then put me on ctg 10 mins before she called a c sect . I was there an 1hr 50m before he was born so there has to be at least an hour where they didn't check, maybe more

Grrr, I'm getting more pissed off as time goes on

Sorry for the rant

Xx

Hope- all I can offer is :hugs: I know this is an incredibly hard time for you and want you to know I'm thinking of you.

Hope-I am so sorry to hear. You mentioned that it worked for you so just assumed. I hope that you hear back from the doctors and get some answers soon. :hugs:

So sorry hope. Just having some answers would be something---and they're not even letting you get that! Just devastated for you.

TTC this is my first pregnancy with the estrogen and the prednisone. My last couple of losses I've only been on the aspirin and progesterone.

I've never gotten any explanations for my losses, but I just figured IVF would give us the best chance with so much happening before the embryos are transferred back. I believe the doctor said the prednisone was a treatment "just in case" for NK cells and possibly something else. She had also mentioned doing an intralipid transfusion at the time of embryo transfer (I believe), but we didn't end up doing that.

Wonder why your doctor would say IVF wouldn't give an different outcome? Hmmm. See if you can find some other ladies in TO with a similar miscarriage story---pretty sure I found some discussions online.

I'm 10 weeks pregnant with twins. Still have my fingers tightly crossed!

Hope - thinking of you and Issac always xx What is due date, I'd like to light a candle for him x

I think that if you can get pregnant another way successfully then why pay more for IVF, ttcfirst?
As for the nkcells test, maybe try for steroid treatment anyway. It has worked for many ladies on here!

I am sorry they could not test the products of your last loss. How far along were you? Usually, the best way to get the loss tested is to have a surgical removal but you need to be far enough along for them to have enough (sorry!) material to work with.

Danny, I am only vaguely familiar with thalassaemia. They have a couple of questions about your family background to field for the possibility when they book you in with the midwife here. I had no idea it could be a cause of miscarriage, though! Are you booked in to see a geneticist?

Hope, sending you lots of love and thoughts. I think it is amazing how you are tackling everything head on and following through with the investigation. I hope you have a lot of support over the next couple of weeks as it won't be easy :hugs:

Ttc- I meant the steroids worked. My abruption was just a totally different event and nothing to do with whether I took steroids or not
Xx

I think for me I'd only be trying IVF if I couldn't get pregnant naturally or I needed genetic testing done on embryos if that was the reason for my losses...

In saying that I did have a friend who had a couple of losses and her FS said it might be a hormone imbalance causing poor implantation, so they did a clomid cycle to control? or boost? not sure of the right word her hormones. Didn't work for 2 cycles, then she had a break from clomid next and fell pg with her rainbow, always wonder if maybe the clomid did help things get kick started though

Hi ladies sorry to butt in.. But has anyone here heard of thalassemia? Or been affected by it?

Had a heads up on the genetic testing from our last loss and this has popped up, they've recommended a full genetic work up for both myself and my husband. From what I gather this may affect ourselves, our two living children as well as explaining some of our losses. We have a consultation on 26th but a very helpful miscarrige clinic nurse is trying to get me some more info before then.

Dan-O

There is a RCOG guideline for treating beta thalassemia? ive just noticed it on the rcog website. Dont know if that is the same hun

Im just about to read the RCOG guideline for intrapartum heamorrage x

Hope I'm so sorry hun, there are no words really, but I'm thinking of you. Must be so hard. :hugs:

26th is coincidentally also one of my due dates, for the partial molar baby I lost 5 years ago. I have my RMC appt that same day too.

Thanks for the info, that's a great help hun :flower:

You have all totally convinced me to try prednisone. Now the question is, when do you start it. AF should be coming any day now. We were planning to hold off on another IUI for a month or two. Now I am thinking of trying prednisone on this cycle without an IUI, maybe it will take. If not then the following month prednisone with an IUI.

When would I start prednisone? Don't worry, I will call my doctor to get the prescription, I just want to make sure he is consistent with what others are saying.

As for the IVF. Because I can get pregnant with and IUI there is no point in IVF. IVF will not help me carry the baby.

You have all convinced me to try prednisone, I have high hopes about it. It seems like a great solution for many people.

You're right about the IVF. I guess I should count my blessings that I can get pregnant with only doing an IUI since it's the cheaper option. lol

I was only about 6 weeks along. I wish he had told me that I needed to be further along to get the testing done. At least you have told me now, I have been confused about it.

I was on 10mg of prednisone all the time, then increased the dose to 20mg from bfp, however I think I'm in the minority with that treatment plan. The other ladies on here seem to only take it from O, but then still up the dose from BFP or stop at AF.

Ginny do you have any issues with it at all? (Ie. Weight gain/puffy face, calcium issues, tummy troubles) xx

Thanks ginny83

I saw someone who went on it a month or so before trying so I thought that I had to think ahead.

How about the monthly cost? I know it is in different countries but is this expensive? I have been spending hundreds on the injections so I am wondering if this is a low price medication or if I am in for another hefty bill.

Well I was on the 10mg for 3 cycles before getting a bfp and I gained quite a bit of weight then even more during 1st tri which is very unusual for me! I also noticed that I had a couple of dark hairs on my chin which have not come back now that I'm off them. No other side effects that I could tell though.
