Recurrent Miscarriage Thread

Im in Australia but the steroids cost very little however the intralipid transfusions were $230 a go and I had 5 of them

Uk girls tend to take 25mg from ovulation, carry on to 12w if you get a bfp or wean off if bfn

Dan 0 - I didn't get too many side affects from them

hey ladies I have a question about my progesterone I got a plus opk but still haven't got my crosshairs so not sure if I ov this month do you think I shoud take my progesterone just in case I did ov??/ hope you don't mind me posting this question on herejust I knew you ladies would know

Kelly, it's really not a good idea to take progesterone until you are sure you have already ovulated. When did you have that positive opk? If it was only on the last couple of days or so I'd rather wait for the crosshairs. They should come within about three days.
Otherwise, could you share your chart on here for us to ogle?

TTCfirst, I'm one of the UK girls Hope mentioned. I was on 25mg from ovulation (only when actively ttc, not before) until 12w and then slowly weaned off them. I did have some of the side effects such as a buzzed feeling when initially starting it, and then an increased appetite, gradually more weight around the middle and the face with bbs getting smaller, definitely more hair growth (on hands and feet, too ). However, these effects are temporary. Once I stopped my belly went down, my face slimmed back to its normal shape and my bbs filled back up. I wasn't carrying any extra weight. You won't be getting most of the symptoms unless your pregnancy is progressing nicely so that's a bonus to offset.
The cost of the pills isn't high in comparison to other medication. Strangely, here the 25mg pills are more expensive than the 5mg ones so I ended up taking 5x5mg/day. Your local pharmacy can probably tell you what the cost is if you ask them.
Intralipid infusions can be very expensive but I know of people who have saved money by organising to have them given elsewhere than in a fertility clinic (added premium). Obviously, still a medical facility!

I take 25mg from ovulation. I get an awful side effect which is that my skin is so sensitive even laying down, sitting, clothes etc hurt and it feels like someone is punching me where ever I'm being touched. That's a very rare side effect though.

Prednisone is super cheap TTC compared to most everything else! I've got a big bottle that I've been using for over a month and I think it was only $30. Don't know that I have any side effects from it.

When do you guys stop taking it? I talked to my doctor's office today and they said I could stop taking the estrogen, progesterone, aspirin and prednisone at the end of this week. I'm currently 10 weeks (will be 11 then). For some reason I thought it was something I was supposed to take throughout a pregnancy.

Mowat you must wean off the steroids, don't just stop, we have to drop it by 5mg every 3 days so its actually about 14w by the time you are properly off them

Xx

I was on 20mg prednisolone from bfp.. And although I was only on it for 3 weeks at that dose I was starving starving and I mean starving all the time... I've out on about a stone... But I eat through stress at the best of times so that doesn't help either..

Even tho they said my nk cells were normal would it benefit me to take the higher dose from ovulation??

I don't know where to be at with treatments etc..

Hope... Your always in my thoughts and I hope u keep the strength to keep fighting. There's no words for what your going through. My problems seem so trivial.
Fight to the bitter end.. Don't let them win. ❤

I stopped progesterone estrogen around 12 or 13 weeks, clexane at 15 weeks and the steroids I started weaning off from about 12 or 13 weeks too

Baby aspirin is the only thing I'm taking throughout the whole pregnancy and even that I'm stopping at 36 weeks

After my rant yday, I reported the hospital to ICO about my records then the hospital rang to say they were ready

I've felt pretty sick since reading them..... My accounts of the day were completely correct, I've just put a time to everything now and my conclusion is they messed up big style

I will explain in short, I arrived at the hospital and isaac hb was 127, the consultant
arrived 20 mins after the ambulance got me there, she put a cannula in and took bloods, that took 20 mins or so, she scanned me which was 54 mins after my arrival and Isaac hb was dropping to 98 and it showed placenta was failing (surely alarm bells would have been ringing at this point!!)

So that scan was at 12.31pm, no mention in my notes of the speculum internal she did and no mention of the ctg as such. It says the obstetrician was asked to assist (she wasn't in the room ) at 13.06 as unable to find hb, did another scan that showed profound fetal bradycardia (scan report missing)

I was wheeled to theatre at 13.13 and Isaac born 13.26, that's the only thing they did do quick but it was too late

No notes on what time paediatric team were called to prepare theatre

That's it :( xx

Oh hope :hugs: it makes me feel sick and angry to read this. And vital paperwork missing too, just madness. I'm glad you have things all laid out now ready to take legal action.
Sending  xxx

We keep running over different possible scenario's in our head, she probably did everything right and in the right order, i don't know.

If the ambulance had put the cannulae in ready she wouldnt have had to mess around for 20 mins, lots of area's where time could have been saved i think but i'm no expert and probably barking up the wrong tree wanting to blame someone

xx

Oh Hope, I can only imagine how you are feeling. I don't wish that on anyone.

Be sure to take care of yourself and do what you need to in order to cope with the loss. Remember there are so many people here who understand what you are going through and they are always here for you.

Thanks Mowat. $30 gives me a great idea of what it will cost here. I think that medications are cheaper in Canada from what I saw on that documentary.

It really sucks that fertility medication is so expensive, we suffer enough as it is.

Oh hope makes me so angry. Why didnt they take you straight to theater when hus heartbeat had dropped and the scan was poor. Why wait for no heartbeat before treating things as urgent :(

Kelly, it looks to me like you ovulated on day 13. I'm not sure why FF thinks it was earlier?
By the way, I'm discounting today's high reading as it is out of character. Are you ill?

I weaned off the steroids from 12w (as mentioned by others, don't stop them from one day to the next!). Progesterone, at 14w, didn't take estrogen so no idea. Aspirin I'm taking until 36w. First of all, because I'm a clotter but also because it helps prevent problems with the placenta and pre-eclampsia.

Hope, a thought occurred to me, not sure whether it is relevant at all. Were you on blood thinners when you had your placental abruption? If yes, did the ambulance crew and the hospital staff know? Was it taken into account? I could be totally wrong, but as far as I know, when someone is bleeding and is on blood thinners then alarm bells should be ringing for ambulance people to get you help as soon as possible. Just a different aspect I have been wondering about. Plus, as I mentioned, I don't know whether this is relevant at all.

Pip - that thought popped in my head last week actually . I have daily thoughts that pop up!!

I thought the same too, I know when I had rang the ambulance I had taken The clexane within the last 12 hours, they knew because I carried all my medication in with me and I told them when I had last taken it

I thought it was dangerous to haemorrhage on them. Ambulance didn't even check my blood loss or put a cannulae in as per their guidelines. The obstetrician had to mess around and do it was about 40 mins after I arrived they got the cannulae in and blood out. She was using surgical gloves as tourniquet and they kept popping off ...... It all seems so odd. The obs even took the bloods out the room and didn't come back till about 15m later which is when she scanned me

I'm driving myself bonkers, and Tasha I expect, lol. Having not been In this situation before I don't know what's write or wrong, I know it will get investigated but in the meantime it will do my head in

Xx

Thanks guys, I think I'll take the prednisone a little longer than they told me, and wean myself off it. Think I'll just keep taking the aspirin.
