I had my testing for rpl today. It went fairly well, she just asked the usual expected questions about family history, including heart attacks, strokes and dvts, miscarriages, stillborns and premature babies, on both my side and my partners side.
She doesn't consider my family history alarming - despite my aunt dying of a heart attack in her 50s, my papa having a heart attack in his 50s, and my mums cousin having a stroke in her 20s. She also doesn't consider my mum having multiple miscarriages or my aunt miscarrying to be worrisome as they both went on to have healthy children. I guess this is all reassuring!
She then went on to ask in detail about each pregnancy. She feels that my first pregnancy could be a miscarriage or ectopic, based on my notes - I didn't actually know it was diagnosed as a pregnancy of unknown location! She is therefore going to treat it as a miscarriage.
My second miscarriage was clear cut, she said she suspects it was chromosomal but can't be sure.
My third was definitely ectopic, she suggested I may have been further than 5+2 for something to have been picked up in the tube by ultrasound, but agreed that she thinks that I actually miscarried a tubal pregnancy rather than it being the methotrexate which brought my levels back down.
She then went on to tell me that she will test me for clotting disorders, but even after 3 losses only 15% of women test positive, and she has only had a handful of positives in women with two losses. Despite needing two positives 12 weeks apart for a confirmed diagnosis, she is happy to prescribe heparin and aspirin after 1.
My risk of miscarriage next time is apparently not raised above 1\4, however I have a 1/8-1/12 chance of another ectopic, and she suspects it will take me slightly longer to conceive than it has done in the past. If I do have a clotting disorder I have a 8/10 chance of miscarrying without treatment, but with treatment it comes back down to 1/4.
She was absolutely lovely but I do feel that they are not really doing much, I know she is doing everything available here but she told me they won't look at progesterone, uterine abnormalities, chromosomes, or nk cells.
If I have another loss they may do chromosome testing on me and oh, and the baby if it is possible, but they won't test my chromosomes after two miscarriages, even although I had an ectopic. It is so frustrating that treatment plans vary so much!
I should have my results in 2-4 weeks and can ttc again as of the end of November. Does this mean I can start having unprotected sex as of the end of November, or ttc the next cycle? Any ideas? I'm a bit confused and I forgot to ask.
Anyway, apologies for the long post but I had to get it all down so I don't forget, and also to see if anyone had any input.
