I never cooked them before. And I made burritos. And I added kidney beans after I fried the mince meat and after I started frying the onions and peppers.

I said to my boyfriend while eating iduno if they're fully cooked, I don't like the texture of them. I rarely eat them. I'm guessing they're not as soft as baked beans and it's not something is eat again.

He then looked at me and asked If I cooked then thoroughly. I said iduno they were in the frying pan for 2-4 minutes with everything else.

He then said I can get food poisoning from it.

I didn't eat my last burrito anyway because now I'm worried :(

I've never heard of anyone getting food poisoning from kidney beans? They do have quite a weird texture anyway... almost like a pate kinda texture, they're not supposed to be rock hard, but they're not soft like a baked bean.

I have never heard of this before but I just looked it up, he's right..

Could you maybe call your doctor or midwife? I'm not trying to scare you, I didn't even know before reading your post! Are you feeling okay so far?:hugs:

I didn't know that either. They do have a different texture than baked beans. They have a tougher exterior. Just watch yourself but don't worry if you get sick. Food poisoning shouldn't hurt your baby, it will just really suck for you.

Yeah I had no idea, but saying that I only really cook baked beans but I'm guessing they'd be different. It's to just make sure it kills off some nasty things they treat the beans with as they're growing by the sound of it. Feel okay so far!

If I get sick from it though I'm calling my midwife. He knows a lot about his cooking, but he was testing out the new iron so want aware of how long I had the beans on for.

I did turn up the beat quite high at the end, and let it simmer a couple of minutes with the sauce added to it.. So hopefully I got it just right.

If I'd have known I would have boiled like the tin said. But I threw them in to fry :/

It wasn't a very good dinner. I'm refusing to cook again. He's always been better at cooking than me.

I've put these in salads direct from the tin. I didn't know you were supposed to cook them, I thought it was just the dried ones.

I thought the tinned ones were okay as they were? I know the dried ones you have to soak and cook for ages, but I've never bothered worrying abuot the cooking time with tinned ones.

I think the info in the link above won't count because they've already been cooked before going in the tin, so the toxins will have been cooked off.

I hope so! I never thought anything of it. I just thought maybe if not cooked or cooked through from a tin maybe it would just make you a bit gassier or uncomfortable digesting.

I hope it's not a case of good poisoning from tinned ones anyway! It was just red kidney beans in water.

So far so good. No discomfort or queasiness.

I hate being ill. Never mind about food poisoning!

If they came out of a can, they were already cooked, so no worries on the toxins. You only have to cook them well if you buy them dried (those you have to soak, and then cook).

Oh that's good then :) just told him and I don't think he knew whether it was tinned or dried. Probably one of those things that people tell you and don't specify which it is. Made me panic!

It's still put me off cooking kidney beans! I'm not a big fan of them now!

Most canned foods will say to cook, just in case any bacteria got in there from the canning process. It's basically a liability thing for the company. We eat kidney beans all the time, and I'm on baby#5. Never had an issue. I think you're probably fine.

I eat them straight out of the can. It's only the dried ones you need to worry about being fully cooked, as the ones in the can are already cooked!

LMAO, these food posts always crack me up, no offense. As others have said, its totally cool, I eat kidney beans all the time.

Sorry to scare you, if I did. I didn't know they were canned, it didn't say so in the original post. Glad everything is ok!!

I've at them once before and never seen them dried in the shop so I had no idea myself haha.

You can tell I don't do much cooking! And I thought the other half would know better as he's done quite a few catering jobs and was convinced I was gonna get food poisoning haha. Oh well :p

I'm gonna stick with the select few dishes I know I'm good at from now on. The burritos weren't even that nice :( haha

If they are out if a tin then as long as you washed them they will be fine. If they are dried ones you need to soak them for an age and it's these ones you need to be more careful of

I had kidney beans right out of a can last weekend, they are fine. I put them in my taco salad and eat them cold.
