Redundancy while on Mat leave

Hi Ladies would love to hear your experiences. Was it hard to find work again?

One month left and still they haven't found me a suitable role.

I'm looking for something just now and fitting it in is tricky, I have to admit. Emails are fine because I can do them once all the kids are in bed. However, actually getting 5 minutes to phone people in working hours is hard.

Not sure where you are but in UK and Ireland it is illegal to make anyone redundant during mat leave. They can make you redundant your first day back however as long as your job gone but even that is a bit of a grey area if you werent going back to your original job

I was made redundant while pregnant, I couldn't find work in my field as it's shrunk a lot since the recession, and paying for 2 children in full time childcare didn't add up on a lower salary. So now I work on a self employed basis when hubby has a day off and can have the kids. I would never have made the jump by choice but I'm glad it happened, I'm much happier with my life now with more time for family, our take home wage is now about 24k less than it was (65% drop in household income!) but somehow we're surviving.

I took volantary redundancy in my mat leave for my 2nd.

As part of it I was given a retraining grant so trained to be a book keeper/part quali accountant in the evenings in hope I could find a part time / work from home job - I applied for 000's of jobs and despite the fact I worked in banking for 6+ years I could find nothing.

In the end went back full time to another bank - not ideal but it what I have been dealt. Hoping once my 1st year is up I can apply for flexible working/ reduced hrs.

This is the exact reason i am my own Boss. And i work independently from home.
