Hi All,

I very rarely post on here so I hope you don't mind me asking some questions.

OK so on the 20th of May by DH & I have an appointment at the FC to be referred for IVF. We are going to the JR in Oxford.

As far as I am aware the BMI required in our area on the NHS is 30, I am currently at 31 - do you think they will still refer me if I am a few (less than 7) pounds over the required BMI? Or will I need to be at the 30 or less before they will refer me? I can easily (I hope) get to the required BMI by end of May/mid June...if I tell them this do you think it will help?!

This is the only thing I am worried about now...I have lost a stone and a half in the last month or so so I am going for it again next week in the hope of getting closer to the BMI.....I don't want to let my hubby down anymore!

THank you in advance for any advice!

Not sure cause the pct will vary from place to place, so what happened in nottm will be different in another place!

I'm sure if you give it a good go until the appt, wear ultra light clothes and have a good poo before you go you'll be fine!!!!!

It will vary from place to place and specialist to specialist...hopefully they will say that as you are only a few pounds over, then by the time you go for your referral appointment you should have lost those pounds and be within the required BMI. If they show any concern then do emphasise that you have lost a stone and a half in the last month (congrats!) and that you feel confident you will continue to lost the weight. Also, I have always found that docs scales tend to weigh a bit lighter than mine at home - don't know if this is just that my scales weigh heavy, or that the docs scales are just better calibrated. You may find that there is no problem once you're there. Don't overdo the dieting in the next week - if you're still a few pounds over then just explain that you are trying to diet healthily and you weren't going to be unhealthy just to get below the required BMI in time for this appointment. The docs will appreciate you dieting carefully and not going to any drastic (and unhealthy) measures to lose the weight. GL!
