Charlie was diagnosed with reflux by a paediatrition at the hospital on Monday. He was prescribed Omeprazole and Domperidone but we think he had a reaction to the omeprazole so we are to keep him just on the domperidone for a week and then if he is no better we are to try the omeprazole again. Anyway I was just wondering how the other reflux mummy's cope cos it absolutely breaks my heart when I see him in screaming in pain. It makes me want to cry.

its hard, but we are on that medication to and it works a treat and she is doing so well now. we were advised to wean early at 5 months by the hospital and so that is what we have done. she loves it and it is really helping. we no longer have screaming

if you are formula feeding, which i had to switch to with hermione we use SMA staysown - we buy it in boots - its purple. it thickens in the belly and helps it to stay down. moving to this milk was the best thing by far its so much better.

Also we use the mothercare medicine dummy to give hermione her medication it makes it alot easier than the syrnge and she shes the blue dummy and gets excited about food.

sorry to throw all this at you its just from my experience... take and leave all the bits you want. i dont want to sound over bearing but it was alot of trail and error for us with some support from on here. had i known all this stuff ealeir i would have not had to go through all the heart renching screaming.

Good luck it gets better

I find it hard when he cries in obvious discomfort too. I just have to remind myself that he won't remember any of this (hopefully) and to just try to distract and comfort him the best I can. It WILL pass.

my first baby had problems with his feeds. we were given gaviscon to thicken his feeds and told to raise his matress, to rub his back, not pat. he'd have a bottle and scream. it wasn't good at all. as he got older it just went away and we were told to stop the gaviscon. he's 3 now and not got any problems at all.
xXx
