Reflux support thread

Hi
How is everyone? Just monitoring LO at the moment to see how she's getting on. We dropped ranatadine after a week as didn't see any improvement.

My LO is taking Ranatadine too. Not really helping. Did you call the doctor about it or just do it.

So I am wondering if my LO hates tummy time which I think is it because the of the reflux how is he ever going to roll over. And I try to sit him up but he vomits half his bottle because the of the pressure. I am worried that he is not going to progress.

Ds1 was on ranitidine, domperidome and gaviscon. He hated tummy time and used to vomit whenever we put him in his car seat or bumbo but he was really advanced with his movement - rolled early, stood early and walked early so I wouldn't worry too much that the reflux will have a significant impact on developmental progress.

Hi girls. My LO has reflux. She was on Gaviscon, Ranitidine and Domperidone and not much was working. We have now put her on SMA staydown and it's fantastic! She struggled to drink and could only manage a few oz and her weight gain wasn't good. A few days of using the milk and she's a new baby who drinks 8oz bottles! We can't use Gaviscon but have her on the other medicine too. I haven't read all the posts on here but just wanted to let you all know. You can buy it at boots or get a prescription. She's no longer sick and such a happy baby. :hugs: to you all xx

Just stopped it. If she gets a lot worse, I'll go back to the doc

Finny88 - it could be. It's specially made for babies with reflux and it's quite a bit thicker too. Sorry I don't know much about other milk though :flower:

My son drinks it. It goes through the nipple sooth and when does he spits up it comes up in clumps if that makes since.

Floofy - My son sleeps on his front, it's the only way we could get him to settle unfortunately. He started sleeping through last week though, so i'm not changing it. We have a movement sensor which definitely helps put my mind at rest more. I was really worried about doing it at first, but he's done it for ages now. We did have him on his side, which worked for a while so maybe that's worth trying? :D

Amber4 - We use SMA staydown as well, we get it on prescription - love it!!

Finny - I think we can get Enfamil here as well - they have slightly diff ingrediants (one uses rice starch, the other corn I think) - but both do pretty much the same thing :D Though I think SMA is cheaper, which is why we are pointed in that direction rather than Enfamil!

That makes sense. I only get Enfamil AR because I am enrolled in government funded program that gives it to me free (WIC).

Brooke used to do that when her reflux was bad. Did you say you use Ranitidine?

Sorry, I absolutely in no way meant to imply that. I don't think he is behind. I was trying to be reassuring. Apologies.

Anyone using SMA staydown or adding gaviscon/carobel to their feeds?
What teats are you using for these feeds as they're much thicker?
We've just tried Aptamil Anti-reflux with a size 2 Dr Brown but it wasn't big enough!
Can't get variflow from Dr Brown btw

We're using dr browns and size 2 teats with sma staydown. It doesn't (or shouldnt) make the milk thicker as its meant to just thicken in the tummy. Not sure about the Aptamil though. When we were using gaviscon i was still using size 1's, tried carobel and went up to size 2. I guess you could just go up a size again and see if that helps? x

so greatful for this thread... not sure if ranitidine is helping us but gonna try putting babygirl on her tummy to sleep

Here are the symptoms our LO has:.....................
Crying/Screaming during feeds and after feeds
Asking for feeds in between times to soothe stomach
Arching back
Sticking tongue out lots
Vomiting
Vomiting clear liquid
Foaming at the mouth
Squirming/Twisting/Bringing legs and knees up and kicking out.
Not sleeping properly/waking up after not much sleep
Waking up screaming
Doesn't like laying down
Clingy

I could have written these symptoms myself the only thing is my baby doesn't cry really she just squeals out when it hurts a lot. She is a trooper. I'm in the u.s. though and here they prescribe Zantec and previcid. We start that tomorrow but started the new formula last night. It seems to be helping at the moment

looking for abit of advice please.
my little girl has reflux, she also has a lactose, dairy and soya intolerance. she is on neocate and gaviscon but still being sick.
her paediatrician wants her on ranitidine but her doctor won't give it her until she has been on neocate for two weeks.
we now know that it is her reflux making her sick asr her new formula contains non of her allergies. should i go and request the ranitidine like the peed wanted?
also i have been advised to early wean but would like to know how exactly this helps reflux? he also said the less milk she takes the better.
any advice welcome, thanks x

I'm not sure how to answer all of your question but someone explained to me earlier about how she had to early wean her son because the reflux was so severe it's here https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/baby-club/1293127-acid-reflux-support-thread.html if you want to read it, it was very helpful
