I went to register our sons name today, and for some reason found it really difficult to spell it, i had to check it over time and time again for fear of getting it wrong! must have been the pressure!

has anyone ever made a mistake in registering a name / know of someone who has?

my mum used to say to me she spelt my name wrong and it was supposed to be kirsten but she pronounces it kirstin so i dont know whether she was telling me the truth

a friend i work with has her name spelt dennise instead of denise because her dad thought it was spelt dennis but with an e

My Dad was supposed to be Allan (with 2 l's) the same as his dad, but his dad who registered him spelt it Alan. My dad didn't know for years until he found his birth certificate, and on lots of his official documents they say Name: Alan otherwise known as Allan which is so stupid!
My dad hates it when people spell his name with only one l- he gets really upset about it! Lol!

I know a woman who had twins.... she let it up to her husband to register the names.
Twin 1: Amanda -- and he did this correct
Twin 2: Alaina -- this is how it was supposed to be spelled (ah-LAY-na)
Alanna -- this is how he spelled it (ah-LAW-na)

because the mom wanted it pronouced with the LAY, she would write it Alana in hopes that more people would say it correctly. This is how the daughter spelled it through school. She now spells it correctly for jobs and legal stuff.

nope but the people at the registry had problems reading my handwriting and spelled one of Hannah's middle names wrong. But they allow you to correct any mistakes here so we just had to send in a correction form

No problems here but i went to school with a girl who was meant to be called melanie but her dad spelt it wrong on the birth cert " melaine " so its now pronounced "mel-LAY-ne"

Yep, I did with my son! One of his middle names is Matthew, and for some unknown reason, when the registrar asked me to spell it, I spelt it Mathew - it looked right at the time, but it's bugged me ever since!! Hopefully he'll not be too bothered as he gets older, or at least forgive me for my dense-post-birth moments!

My Grandad registered my Mum as Vivian (male spelling) instead of Vivien! Also friends dad changed his mind at the office about her sisters middle name and came up with the first name that came into his head! - Had to explain that one to her mum when he got home!!

Here on a birth class I attended, they suggested to take a paper with you with the name written out already, so you don't end up with an error.

It'll be a challenge for us, as OH will have to navigate the registration with a French-speaking municipality, and he speaks 0 French.

well my sis... was called Ashley at birth and for the first week...
and my dad registered her as Lyndsay lololol !! he simply said he didn't like ashley !
