My son is now 10 weeks and has been on formula for 2 weeks now.

He takes about 5oz every 3 hours during the day and is feeding every 3 hours at night to taking 4oz. When I was bf I was only feeding him twice in the night and I really thought that changing to bottles would make the nights easier. In fact they have made the nights harder.

I've tried to get hin to take more during the day but he wont. Is 3 hourly normal for a 10 week old on formula at nighttime?

Thanks

I switched from BF to formula slowly from about 11/12 weeks unitl 19/20 weeks. I can't say that it made any different what so ever to the nights. I think it could be a myth as I have a friend that has a BF baby that has slept from about 8pm - 6am with no feeds from about 8 weeks old and one that is formula fed that didn't stop waking at night for food until about 6 months. But I suppose every baby is different too.

Maybe your LO is going through a growth spurt at the moment. If he is genuinely waking from hunger, just feed him and he will eventually drop the night feeds :). The only other thing I can suggest is in a few weeks you could try giving him a bottle of the hungry baby formula before bed, as this might help him go a little longer. I think they don't advise you move onto that until they are around 15/16 weeks though as it can make them constipated. Changing just one bottle over shouldn;t have too much of an effect though. We used to give Jack 2 bottles out of 5 as hungry baby, and he did start sleeping longer - it could have been coincidence though I don't know.
