Something I had never thought about until a friend just mentioned it.

I have a Vertical Clit Hood Piercing that Ive had in for more than 5 years.
I wondered if I would have to take it out for labour?
if I could just change the metal barbell for a plastic one (I know some hospitals dont like metal piercings left in, in case they need to defib or something)

I figured it would be fine as I was sure you cant rip your clit in labour you just usually tear downwards, but after talking to my friend she said she tore her labia and clit :sad2:

Thanks to increased blood flow to area they heal up super quick and its not exactly the kind of piercing you want to force through if it has started to heal. Ive never had it out for more than an hour!

If I take it out for labour its probably goodbye for good as I couldnt be bothered getting it done again, even tho I would miss it.

Did anyone you know have one and deliver fine?

not got one sorry but super jealous as ive wanted one for a couple of year since getting my nipples done! always been too much of a wimp :haha:
I guess if I can cope with labour I should be ok with a piercing, ill see how it goes lol x

My bestie has hers done and delivered fine with the metal bar still in :)

Loads of people say that but I swear to god its the least painful piercing Ive had! Less painful that my earlobes!!
It sounds like it should be painfull but the hood has no nerves in in whatsoever, just skin. I jumped in a hot bath an hour after having it done and didnt even notice!!

I have no idea! But I wouldn't think having it in would make you rip any differently if you were unfortunate enough to rip in that area? I had a tear at the upper part of my labia where it meets the clit area. You might have to take it out for the stitching if that happens.

I'm not sure either. I tore on my labia but not near the clit. I would think I would be fine. Has your ob said anything?

Wow! I had NO idea that people got these pierced! I think I've had a very sheltered life :haha:

Can I ask, why did you have it done? (Purely interested here - no judgement in any way) Does it change the sensations? Or is it that it looks nice?

Personally I would take it out for the labour as I've been asked to have my belly bar out for scans, you may find the nurses want yours out on the big day.

... I think I've turned myself inside-out by cringing at the ENTIRE contents of the thread.

(FTR - had earlodes and eyebrow pierced, although had to take out eyebrow for the Army).

Argh... *stillcrossinglegs*

I really really really recommend you take it out for labour!!!!!

When Amelia was coming out I'd had a numbing injections because the midwife thought she'd need to cut me (luckily she didn't) so I couldn't feel anything from my perineum..but my clit..OMFG THAT STUNG LIKE A BITCH!!!!

:argh: ouch!

I would def take it out. i tore my lips either side (tmi) but if i had a ppiercing down there i certainly wouldnt have had a clitoris left!

also despite alot of stitches the thing that hurt most after labour was my clitoris/

im sat here clenching whilst reading this thread

honestly id prefer pushing out my 9lb 3oz baby again with NO painrelief.

They increase sexual pleasure, but that wasnt the reason I got mine done. I just think they look really sexy! And its a massive confidence boost - like when you are wearing super sexy underwear under your clothes, its like that all the time!

It seems like everyone is agreeing that it needs to come out!

I had come to that conclusion myself but I was sort of hoping that everyone would disagree haha!

It makes sense when I think about it.... Just trying to decide now whether I should bite the bullet and take it out now so I cant chicken out later!

And hopefully it will make me feel a bit more mumish haha

I personally would keep it in until your closer to giving birth :) I took my belly bar out at about 28weeks with my first pregnancy because my belly was getting so big it was almost tearing my piercing, I couldn't get along with those maternity bars, so it had to come out. I then literally gave birth a week later so I could have got away with keeping the piercing in! I'm not saying your going to give birth early but if you do the tiny baby won't rip you and if it's early then you might need a csection anyway.. You more than likely will go to term though :) but just hang in there a bit longer

You can rock a clit piercing with a floral blouse and pleated skirt y'know lol

Well as someone who has lots of piercings, although i dont have this one, id say keep it in until maybe its time to push? Put a bar in now so its easy to just undo and remove and put it back in afterwards. Personally, i only had a tiny tear on my perineum with my DD and had no pain anywhere near my clit etc, but as everything stretches down there i would take it out for the actually delivery. I have a smiley piercing (lip frenulum) and as i guess that bit of skin is the same i know how quick it can close up x

I might leave it in and take it out closer to the time then,

I just hope I dont get too massive and cant take the damn thing out!!

I'd leave it in until you go into labour, then if you feel ok afterwards put it straight back in, if not give yourself time to heal then try to put it back in
