I'm thinking of using reusable nappies. How many will I need?

It depends how many times you want to wash them really. Im going to start using them soon but Im only getting about 5 or 6 to start with. Going to use them in the day and then wash them at night ready to use in the morning again.

Wow, that must get you an expensive electical bill. So i guess if I wash them every two days, 10 should be enough?

depends how many nappies you use in one day. at the min I use about 8 disposables. btw some boroughs of London to a real nappy voucher worth around £50.

That's brilliant, thank you for the link. I've just checked it, and my borough is on the list :happydance: :hugs:

I've started using them recently (although we're still part timers at the moment!). I'd recommend just getting a few different types first and seeing what suits you and your baby before buying loads of them. There are a couple of used nappy sites - I've found some lovely bargains in fantastic condition :) x

Great I'll check it out too, Thanks. Are there any brands you recommend?

I use the Bumgenius 3.0 and I love them! We have 24 of them, and it lasts us about 3 days or so, depending if Claire is having a poopy day or not.

I do agree to shop around and find what you like though. I'm lucky that I first went with Bumgenius and I liked them, but not everyone feels that way. Hopefully you find something you like!

I like the idea of using bumgenius because I believe that they only come in one size, which works out cheaper. Are they ok for newborns or will be too big and the clothes wont fit?

They have special newborn inserts I think. The website says from 7lbs.

They are adjustable, my friend started using them once the umbilical cord fell off and was fully healed. He was a 9lb'er to start with though so it was all good once she started using them.

I definitely like the one size, OH and I figured it out and after 6 months of use the diapers have paid for themselves. I like that I only have to worry about running out for wipes, but even then you can use baby washcloths. :)

Like Sam mentioned, they do come with a newborn liner that you can use as an overnight booster once your baby starts using the larger liner.

I've not tried bumgenius - will have to get one! I'm liking Totsbots (shaped nappies) at the moment, we've got some Bamboozles to use very soon. I've got an Ella's House hemp one and it's gorgeously soft. We tried Bambino Mio prefolds and they weren't for us. I like using good old fashioned Terry's squares with a nappy nippa and a fleece liner (just a bit of a cut up blanket!) and my favourite wraps so far are Motherease Airflow with poppers on :)

They have BumGenius on sale in Argos at the moment. You might find it useful to go on the Nappy Lady website ( https://www.thenappylady.co.uk/ ) you can fill in a questionnaire thing and based on your answers different nappies are recommended for you. I haven't got a tumble drier so don't think BumGenius would be all that good for me as they probably take longer to dry than other nappies. Might give one a go if I see one second hand but they're a bit expensive for me new at the moment.

I use cloth and we have 26 in regular rotation. We wash every 3 to 4 days.

i'm looking into the onelife reusable.
i had a demo of the onelife, pop ins (similar to bumgenius) tot's bots and bambino Mio, and the onelifes ones seemed the nicest to fold and adjust and they're onesize (but you need different sized wraps as baby grows) whereas the bambino mio are several size inners and outers. the popins were really bulky and looked like they would take ages to dry. i did like the tots bots and they are bulky but would be ideal as a night time nappy.

you can get reuasble nappy advisors to come see you with their range of nappies look at https://www.teamlollipop.co.uk/.

i have bambino mios which i have found better since i started folding them the opposite way to what it tells you to and also a set of mothercare smart nappys. I have 3 outers and 12 middles of the bambino mios and 4 outers and 8 middles of the smart nappy, and i have got into the habit of slinging all his washing in (nappies and clothes) at night and drying them in the morning!(we are on electric meters and havent noticed a rise in our electricity use)

i love the smart nappy the best tho!!

Thank you ladies for all the very useful advice and links.:hugs:
