Rather worried, i went out to lunch with work friends today and we went to an Italian. The menu had loads of See food on the menu which i wasnt going near. So without thinking i opted for Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli.
I was really nice, but didnt eat it all as after awhile food and me just give up!

Bascially i've since found out that Ricotta is a no no cheese!
Am i worrying over nothing as basically..... the amounts in each pasta was a teaspoon if that, was cooked in boiling water and was mixed with tons of spinach!!
Also the pasta, it looked fresh and didnt accur to me that maybe it was a bad choice, however it would of been cooked for at least 5mins!!!

So am i worring over nothing, i've not had a runny egg since find out our :bfp:, stopped drinking tea or coffee for like 3months. And when it comes to steak i have it med/well instead of my love of still mooing!!!!

Just would like some thoughts on should i worry or am i ok!

I reckon you will be fine.

When I was pregnant I ate peanuts, medium cooked steak and probably a few other naughty things. Try to avoid it obviously, but don't beat yourself up when you make a mistake. :)

Really don't worry!! It's only a no no for the possible risk of food posioning and thats still increadibly unlikely!! Especially since it was cooked. I think given that it was cooked it's actually fine to have.

We tend to over worry about what we can and can't eat whilest pregnant but women years ago knew none of this and were fine.

I still ate everything while I was pregnant. All the cheeses, soft eggs, rare steaks.... even oysters and I never once got ill and my baby is fine!

I am not sure what to say I do think you will be fine though I am not sure if it makes a difference if it is cooked or not. Do not worry too much about it x

Ah thanks everyone!! I was kinda thinking, your worrying over nothing but then thinking Christ i could of damaged Squiggle!!!

Thanks for the link:D, however i have a list of things from my GP's and also in my pregnancy book! And i am aware of the majority of whats safe and whats not! And Ricotta didnt feature in them! I googled
Cheeses safe to eat whilst pregnant and the Cow and Gate forum came up!
And they mentioned Ricotta.

I posted this link in a different post

Hi don't worry.. the chance of getting ill is very slim.
And I'd never even heard ricotta was a no no as it's not a 'ripened' cheese and is pasteurised, much like any soft spread type cheese... or so i thought!
Anyway, I am sure you'll be OK espesh as it was cooked.
I had ricotta and spinach yesterday! There are some things you can't give up!!:)

Don't worry - there is nothing in the cheese that will harm you or bubs - it's just best avoided because of the risk of food poisoning being higher in unpasturized cheeses. Chances are the cooking of the meal killed off any potential bugs and you will be just fine. Don't worry, I know people who ate undercooked eggs while pregnant and were ok.

The main reason we are told to avoid these things is because the risk is higher. Only certain fish must be avoided particularly because of mercury in them, but most of the other food is because of the food poisoning risk.

Hi there,

Just thought id put my 2 cents in! The reason soft cheeses, and unpasteurised dairy products are a no no is the risk of listeriosis, not so much food poisoning. Althought the latter can lead to dehydration and potentially a risk to the child. Listeria in pregnancy can potentially lead to congenital malformations. BUT any of theses cheese which are cooked and therefore become pasteurised are ok.

I presume the ravioli would have been thoroughly cooked and therefore you wont have anything to worry about.

Take care!
