Just wondering if I have the epidural will I still feel the ring of fire?

No, you wont feel anything, that is my understanding anyway. I had a spinal (which apparantly is slightly different to the epidural but only in so much as i think it is just one large dose of anaesetic instead of a smaller dose over a period of time ) and with the spinal i did not feel him be born at all.... I was kind of sad about that. So i would imagine with epidural you would not feel ring of fire

My epidural had worn off over 3 hours & I felt no pain but all the stretching & baby coming out! It was amazing as I felt everything but no pain. I loved it

I had the epidural and after about 20 minutes of them putting it in felt absolutely nothing, It was the best thing I ever did as my pain threshold is non existent. Without it I would have been a mess. I had a 2nd degree tear and didn't need a local down there for them to stitch either as the epi was still working. :)

I couldn't feel anything from my waist down with the epidural.

I felt everything, and a little burn, but I don't think it was nearly as strong as It would have been, BUT my epidural was wearing off, I had not had another dose and no drugs running through for hours before pushing and it was PERECT. I felt and could control, but it was not horrible pain. I got up and walkedto the bathroom while he was getting cleaned, andthen walked to recovery.

My understanding is that if it is working properly and it has not worn off at all you won't feel anything. Often they let it wear off slightly for the pushing stage though as some women find it hard to push effectively when they can't feel anything. It also means you will be back on your feet sooner after the birth. I chose not to have an epi and I found the stinging a little intense but it wasn't that bad for me. Feeling the baby coming out was amazing.

I could still move my lower body around, but I didn't feel any pain or discomfort, including the ring of fire. I didn't even know she was almost out until the OB told me! (I refused to look down there)

This thread makes me sad I had to have a csection. I hope I get to try for a vag birth with #2!

Nope, I didn't feel a thing with mine. I went a little overboard on the self-dosing though because the epidural had worn off one one side and had to be reset party way through and having felt the contractions from transition, I was TERRIFIED to feel any more and just kept pushing that button every time it would let me. It was great though. I didn't feel anything but a bit of pressure, and there was a contraction thing on me so they would register on the screen and the nurse would tell me to push. It was way easier than I thought it would be. I wasn't even tired or anything after she was out. Well.. I was sleepy tired from being in labor when I normally would have been sleeping LOL, but I wasn't like.. physically exhausted.

Side note: I would suggest is discussing beforehand what your hospital's policy is... I had a nice argument with my docs because they wanted to shut my epidural completely off and push naturally. If I had wanted that in the first place, I wouldn't have gotten the epidural :haha: I finally won my case. Never got to try it though so I can't say how it felt because I ended up with an emergency c-section. :dohh:

I felt the stretching and the pressure, but not really pain per say; I loved it!!!

you can ask your nurse/doctor to keep it at a level to where you can still feel it - it just won't be the full pain experience.

i couldn't handle it - once i felt a bit of fire i screamed and my doctor had the nurse up my epi. i could still feel my baby come out, and i could still feel the need to push etc.

I felt it. My epi had started to wear off though an they didnt offer/I didnt ask to have it topped up as I knew I was close to pushing. I felt all of the pushing stage, and tbh I actually didnt mind the pushing, id take it over contractions any time.
