I am very please for Kate and William for the arrival of there healthy boy, BUT the rumours of names is driving me mad we have had Spencer James Arnold picked out for at least 1 month now spencer after my grandmothers maden name and James after his daddy and I hear it could be James spencer I know there are a lot flying around but I will be so annoyed if this is what they go for I know I'm being selfish lol but I just can't help feeling so disappointed!

Ha ha ha oh dear, i wouldn't worry too much it's unlikely to be Spencer, that was Diana's maiden name, can you imagine the queen going along with that, and James isn't that uncommon so you cant get narky if they pick that, i personally think it'll be George James, but it's only randoms like me that are guessing no one really knows, im just glad my munchkin is a girl!

My cousins little boy is Spencer James as is my friend's little boy, i'd be honoured if they chose the boy name I like lol

It doesn't matter as much to me since I am in the US and having a girl but I think it will be George Phillip Edward James

I understand! If its a common name like James it won't be associated with the royal baby too much but if its more unique and its a name you like it will be like you are copying!

This has been my gripe all week :dohh: peopla trying to guess the baby name! It doesn't bother me when people in general are doing it but it's driving me mad that all the journalists are guessing and then getting name specialists in to interview :dohh:

One funny thing that made me laugh though was an interview with some old guy who'd been camped outside the hosp for 2 weeks ..... he was asked what they should call baby and he said tracy, after his daughter or terrence after him! :haha:

I don't think Spencer will make an appearance in the name. It's too modern. I think they will go classic. James may well appear but it's such a common name that I don't think anyone could accuse you of copying!

I was slightly worried about this too as we are also having a boy, however we have decided to name the baby after my late father (we have chosen Cole, as my dad's name was Colin), so I think we are safe. Can you imagine King Cole? Old king cole was a merry old soul haha!! :haha:

No no, I can understand why anyone would be miffed if the royal baby was named the same as their future child. Mainly because every parent wants their child to be unique and special but you know whatever the royals name their child, whether it's Spencer James our George James etc, you know there will be a million babies named the same thing and then suddenly the name which had genuine significance to someone, becomes a trend and for a while to come, the parents will be asked if they named their child after the royal baby. Which you know, may not seem like a big deal but after being asked the same question and having to give the save explanation 10+ times, it can start to become very annoying.

So yes a name is just a name but you can't cast judgement or be bitter towards anyone who doesn't want to be caught up in the trend of sharing a name with the royal baby. So yeah I can understand where you're coming from KAH1990 :)

I just heard on the news here that they think the name James is too controversial and will most likely be avoided.

I don't think it will be Spencer James, possibly James Spencer. We love the name James & Thomas, even if its called James, we will prob still use it if that becomes our favourite.

I know how you feel though, as we've had children years after the rest of our family and friends, majority of the names we love have already been taken.

It won't be Spencer or james, the man Diana had an affair with was James. It'll be people close to the family more likely George/Philip.

I hope it's not James as that's my name if we're having a boy I'd be put off using it if they use it because I can imagine the name temporarily becoming popular with people naming their boys after the new prince and wouldn't want my son to go to school and be in the same class as 5 other James' lol

They could have spencer as a middle name since it was williams mother's surname.

George is my grandfather's name and it's been top of my list for a while. But OH thinks it's "too English" and dammit, if the royal baby gets called George, I won't have a leg to stand on!

And yeah, given how many people believe James Hewitt is Harry's father, I doubt "James" will come into it as a primary name, at least.

I know Alexandra/Alexander were thrown around a bit. Alexandra is Elizabeth II's middle name.

AussieBub I agree with you! i know when they mentioned Alexandra I thought oh no!!! - I can imagine that being shortened and my girls name is Alex - I wanted to be a bit different! Phew, boy, I'm out !

Apparantly, according to a survey by a baby company, people are waiting for hear the name before they name their own children the same :dohh:

If it is traditional or classic name used for generations, such as James ,I wouldn't expect it to be unique. Especially if it has been used many generations in the royal family.

I almost was going to name my son, James (biblical name. I tend to use names from the bible)

George here would definitely not "Too English" but I think some would think it's a little old fashioned as Barbara or Dorothy. I have a cousin name George.

Yeah, we live in Ireland, and George is the patron saint of England, so I get it, but I still love the name, and would love to honour my grandfather, who was such an impressive man.

I love old fashioned names.

I don't want it to be George because we picked out the name Georgia for DD2 :( everyone will think it's in relation to the royal baby.
