Okay, so hubby took a test a few months ago and was told he had to take it again. Everything was normal except the viscocity and the ph. Though the letter that we received with the reason for retaking the test only mentioned the viscocity. The PH was over 8... I think 8.2 or 8.3. Now the results of the second test came back and they asked him to go take it yet again, but haven't disclosed the actual results to us.

So what exactly could this mean? Is there anything else we should ask them to test? The morphology and everything else was good with the first test. His sperm count was over 120 million.

Just a bit bummed as now it seems we both have fertility issues.

Your hubby can request copies of all results, that way you can see what's going on.

Most docs like to have 2,3 or 4 samples done to get a true Reading of what's going on as 1 or 2 samples may give incorrect readings. What is the time difference between samples?

I wouldn't worry to much at this stage and see it as they are getting a good picture of what's happening.

Maybe if the ph doesn't come down slightly they will try some anti biotics but it may come down itself.

If you get the results try putting them into a table so you can clearly see any differences/ improvements.

Thanks. He waited a long time between samples... about a month and a half. We are trying to get the results but the gp office is being really weird about it and we only got them the last time when they sent a referral letter to have them repeated. Do you know what could cause the viscocity to go off? I am having such a hard month again with all of this, coupled with no af and no ovulation this month which hasn't happened to me in a long time...

The ideal time between SA tests is 3 months because that is the length of time it takes new sperm to form, any less then that and you are testing some of the same sperm IYKWIM.

For the sperm viscocity, does your dh drink enough water? He may want to increase his water intake to see if that makes a difference. He could also try a cough medicine (it has to be a certain ingrediant which I will have to back to you on) as that could also help, but he would need to take it about 4 times a day for about the 6 days prior to your ovulation - also great if you need more CM (it doesn't create more it makes what you do have more watery).

A high PH could indicate a infection or if your dh has been ill (even if he didn't feel ill, his body may of been fighting it off). When my dh had the flu his PH went up and 3 months later it had come back down naturally.

If I can help at all please shout xxx

my dh had a vasectomy reversal in march (private cost £2500) and we've had a bit of a struggle getting a copy of the results, when we went back after his op the doc says its been a success 28mil count try having sex mid cycle(no mention of anything else). We just got the copy of thre results yesterday and his motility is 35% (not great) his morohology is only 3% (bad)
Why would these doctors want to keep vital infomation from us :hugs:

I'm really sorry you have been put through this.

Some GPs don't understand how to read SA results probably, look at count see that's good and think everything else would be fine then! I just wish they wouldn't read them at all and refer them to someone who can.

I think you should request another test now, and see what that comes back as. The results of 1 test isn't a true picture so try not to worry just yet Hun xxx

thanks I'm going to ring a fertility clinic tomorrow to book dh in for another test, also we changed his vitamins to see if that will help x

ald-- Thanks very much for the help ! I didn't know there should be a wait between tests. He had one the end of July and the second one the end of September. He drinks a lot of water, no caffeine and only the occasional bit of alcohol. I came across the infection thing online, but that was all I could find. Maybe I should have him wait before repeating again?

Versal I really don't know why these Dr. are so strange about releasing the results. Our dr. at least knew to get them repeated, but for nearly a month they told us they couldn't say anything. The first time, they actually told us that the test results didn't come in and we had to have it repeated, but the referral letter had the results stapled to it! A full report, so I really don't understand.

I just hope we can figure it all out, though I'm beginning to wonder if this is going to be possible if both of us have fertility problems.

Ald, I hope all goes well and that your hubby is safe and returns soon! I also have pcos, or at least I have the cysts in both ovaries-- blood tests a bit inconclusive.

Wishign us all the best!

It is possible, please don't give up hope.

I have problems and my dh and major problems with his motility, but I know it will happen for us, we just have a longer journey then most. I hope this time next year we will both be writing our success storys here :hugs:

I'm always here if you ever need to chat/rant/cry or any other emotion we go through on a weekly basis!

Anything is possible lovey.if you have at least one sperm and egg it can happen.
As for docs theyre rubbish.they havent got much of a clue when it comes to fertility stuff thats why they always pass you off to fertiliy specialists.

I rang our local fertility clinic which is at our local hospital and he;s booked in for another sa tomorrow at 2.30 they were very nice and said we may get results by late afternoo :happydance:

Thats fabby news.

He should go about 3 days between last letting his swimmers out and the test, will this fit in with the test tomorrow, because if it will great but if it won't then it will be worth postponing the test by a few days to get a correct reading.

xxx

:haha::haha: yes it will fit in we've not :sex: for a week tomorrow
