My lo was early and in the NICU so I had to pump to establish my supply. I pumped way more than they were giving with the tube and so was freezing what wasnt used. i was trying to use up the milk and so was going to the upper end of what different websites said for storage length. I defrosted some today and realized it smelled odd so I tasted it and it tasted horrible. I've never tasted my breastmilk frozen before so I am now wondering if it was lipase, but it didn't taste soapy, it gagged me. I threw the rest of the stash away (after checking another and finding it was the same) just to be safe. It meant our pretty big stash is now seriously depleted. I do have a little saved up from more recently and am with her right now other than Saturdays, when I work. So it's no big deal... But I'm all emotional about it... I worked so hard for that milk, it sucks to throw it all away. At least she is still breast feeding and we have been successful at it, I'm blessed in that... But it sucks...
I'm also all worried that if it was bad and not lipase... What if she's been drinking spoiled milk?!?
Then I'm like, what if it was lipase and I needlessly threw it away?!? I will have to taste fresh frozen milk at some point to know for sure in the future... I just didn't want to take any chances.
