The only yogurt I eat normally is Dr Onken Mango, Papaya and Passion Fruit Yogurt.

I was told that Papaya isn't safe in pregnancy, for different reasons - but it's only 3% papaya.

Here's the info on the yogurt;

Yogurt, Sugar, Mango (3.9%), Papaya (3%), Passion Fruit Juice (0.6%) Mango Puree (0.5%), Modified Tapioca Starch, Thickeners: Pectin, Guar Gum; Natural Flavouring, Turmeric Extract
Contains: Cows Milk

Per 100g Per 150g serving % GDA*
Energy 431KJ/102kcal 647KJ/153kcal 8%
Protein 4g 6.1g 12%
Carbohydrates 14.3g 21.5g 8%
of which sugars 13.7g 20.6g 23%
Fat 2.7g 4g 6%
of which saturates 1.7g 2.6g 13%
Fibre 0.2g 0.3g 1%
Sodium 0.07g 0.11g 4%
equivalent of salt 0.18g 0.28g 5%
Calcium 120mg

Do you think it's safe?

I never knew you couldn't eat papaya? Why not?
I can't imagine a 3% is gonna do much :/
But I don't know, just interested to see what people say.

I've been told different things like it can cause miscarriages, still births, bring on contractions etc..

Oh god i have never heard that but i hope it is okay to eat coz i ate nearly two of the big tubs of it the other week! (i looooove it) It's not caused me any problems so far?x

There is no official advice about papaya, and seeing as there's official advice about all sorts of things that people would have to go through some serious effort to get, I figure it's bunkum. Eat your yoghurt :)

edit: OK a quick google, apparently eating unripe papaya isn't good. But who the hell goes around eating unripe exotic fruit? Chances are the 3% of papaya in the yoghurt was ripe.

Fully ripe papayas do not present a problem for pregnant women and are actually a healthy source of vitamins A and B, potassium and beta-carotene. It is however, the unripe papaya that poses a threat. Unripe papayas contain pepsins in their latex that may induce contractions and lead to miscarriage, according to a British Journal of Nutrition report.

Yes, it is safe to eat papaya during pregnancy, as long as it is ripe. A well-ripened papaya is full of vitamins and nutrients. Papaya helps to prevent and control constipation and heartburn. For these reasons, many experts recommend that pregnant women eat moderate amounts of ripe papaya.

Some women make a tonic by blending portions of ripe papaya with milk and honey. This mixture is considered a rich source of nutrients for pregnant and nursing mums.

However if the papaya is unripe, then no, it isn't safe. An unripe or semi-ripe papaya is rich in a substance called latex. Research shows that this concentrated form of latex may trigger uterine contractions. Also, papaya skin and seeds shouldn't be eaten.

I really don't think this is a big thing, unless someone has a papaya tree and a lax attitude to harvest times.

I think that most of those food warnings are like, if you eat an excess of something. I can't imagine one yogurt would do you any harm =)

Even pineapple is a myth, pineapple does contain natural prostaglandins but these are not the type that ripen the cervix/bring on labour xx

With many of these things you are not allowed to eat, they don't mention that you'd have to eat a ton of it to even remotely be considered a possibly problem so I agree - eat your yogurt!
