Safe while nursing?

My Dr prescribed me a topical 2% hydrocortisone / 1% keytone cream for some dermititis I have developed down there. She knows I am nursing. When I googled it to make sure it is safe to use, the sources said there have not been enough studies to claim it is safe or unsafe, but that it is unlikely to cause harm to a nursing infant.

The itching is driving me mad and has been a problem for weeks, so I really want to take it, but I am paranoid about it affecting LO.

I took it once and it gave me relief.

Should I keep using it? Maybe sparingly only when I have symptoms?

Unless you're applying the cream to your breasts I don't think you have anything to be worried about. It would take a LOT of topical hydrocortisone to have a systemic effect. Just make sure everything is covered up so baby doesn't come into direct contact with the treated area.

This is likely to be the case with anything really, because you can't really do studies on pregnant or breastfeeding women. You have to weigh up the benefit with the risk.
