Im a little confused on what I can and cant have in a sandwich so at the moment Im having cheddar or marmite and after a while can seem boring.

I thought I read somewhere about hams and cold meats etc being a product to avoid?

I know I cant have preprepared fillings as they contain mayo  but what about everything else? whats about cold chicken or ham etc etc.

any tips for a newbie trying to get some fun back into her lunch :dohh:

MAyo is fine as long as its not home made...so helmans is ok to eat..most of the pre packaged fillings are less like to contain listeria than anything home made!

Ive been eating tuna melt..which is tuna mayo, with cheese and chilli..sounds gross but is yummy!!

xx

Oh and cold meats are fine as long as they are not from a deli (As they get warm on the deli counter), so packaged cold meats are fine too

xx

You dont need to worry about mayo like Hellmans because thats pasteurised, its the homemade stuff thats a problem...
So you can go with tuna and mayo etc.
I cant give you much advice on meat as Im a veggie,I just wanted to let you know about the mayo xxx

I eat some cold ham, chicken (not processed) and occasionally tuna. I also put hard boiled egg in my sandwiches.

Be aware that you must not consume more than 4 small cans of tuna per week due to high mercury levels that can harm the baby.

Hi hun,

Basically just avoid anything home made when it comes to mayo! Shop bought is 9/10 ok. Chicken, bacon, anything like that is fine as well as pre-packaged meats like ham etc. Corned Beef is a favourite of mine at the moment! And tuna (actually fish in general!!) and sandwich pastes are talking to me as I can't have pate so they offer a poor mans alternative!

Basically, go ahead, just eat and dont worry too much about it....as long as you're getting a balanced diet, go for it!!

wow really  mmmmmmmmmquick wheres that mayo lol xxxx thanks girls xxxx

im only avoiding the risky things like tuna, brie , raw fish, undercooked meats, and smoked meats...just to be on the safe side. Hellmans is fine. Egg sandwiches are good if you cook the eggs well obviously. I am addicted at the moment though to sardine and tomatoe paste sandwiches..with the really cheapy bread from tescos...it reminds me of school lol

 ahava ya nutta. Im splashing out today on my sandwich. cheese ham and pickle wrap from sainsburys :) yum!

Sardine & Tomato Paste Sandwich?! LOL! I love hearing all these interesting sandwich filling ideas!!! Cheddar & Marmite?? Is marmite yeast extract??
I have been filling my sandwiches with salsa/avocado/smashed black beans (wrap) and plain old baguette & PB....mmmmm I love PB!

whats PB? yes Marmite is yeast extract and full of folic acid which is a good thing. :)

I'm making my sawndwiches with lots of salad leaves (watercress, lettuce, spinach, etc. just trying to vary when possible). Always cheddar (mild or mature), pickle, sometimes cooked ham, avocado!! love it, tomatoes, sweet peppers.

Also houmous is great as a filling, and it can be varied as well. It is great because pulses (in this case chickpeas) is one of the recommended foods for us girls! Rich in different vitamines and minerals.

I'll go for the sardines & tomato sandwiches one of these days! Yummi!

IF you take notice of everything you cant eat you will speand the whole pregnancy starving!

pre-packed cold meats are fine as is tuna (no more than 3 cans a week), mayo is fine as long as shop bought in a jar not freshly made, soft cheeses they tell you to avoid, nuts and nut products are allowed as long as there is no family history of nut allergys.

there is a sticky thread in 2nd, 3rd or pregnancy club that has loads of stuff on it.

mmmmm - I forgot about hummus as a sandwich spread - it is delicious.
Oh - and PB is just peanut butter - as in PB&J without the J. And I have heard of marmite but have never tried it. I have been craving sandwiches more than anything else!
