So i'm currently 7 weeks and 3 days pregnant, after suffering a mmc in march (discovered at dating scan) when i lost my wee boy max. I had a scan at the EPU on thursday when i was 7 weeks, we seen heartbeat, and midwife said that after seeing a heartbeat at this stage there is a 79% chance the pregnancy will continue well

My symptons seem to be coming and going and ive had alot of pain the last few days, and as you can imagine i am so worried that come the time of my dating scan we will get the same awful news as last time . Would you book another scan before the 12 week one? I am either going to book a private scan for ab out 9/10 weeks, or the midwife at EPU told me that if i had any concerns or was worried about anything to phone and they'll book me in for another scan no problem? Or should i hold out till dating scan? Any advice/opionions would be great? what did you all do?

Hey - i had a scan at almost 9 weeks, then another at just over 10weeks..... well worth it.

Get your peace of mind .

I would contact epu and get another reassurance scan before your dating scan. I'm having my second early scan at epu this week. I don't think I'd be able to hold out until my 12 week one! Luckily my epu asked me if I wanted to be rescanned in a fortnight after my initial scan at 6+3 so that I didn't need referring by gp.

Ring them Hun, it can't hurt xxxx

Thanks ladies i think i'll give them a call mid-week if im still feeling a bit unsure, they did say after all if i wanted re-scanned for reassurance they would, so i might as well to give me some peace of mind, thanks again ladies :) x

Take the scan if they have offered it to you. Get the free one now at epu and save the money you would have spent for a private scan later on.

If you have pain you are entitled to get it checked but just so you know some pain and cramping can be a very normal part of early pregnancy

I'm lucky in that my hospital scanned me every 2 weeks so far. Can't you ring them and tell them how scared you are given your history?

It's funny how hospitals say different things. Yours have given you a percentage that is about average for any pregnancy from the start regardless of a heartbeat being seen.

Mine said 97% after a heartbeat seen at 7 weeks.

EDITED TO ADD: Sorry I just saw that they said they will rescan you. Definitely take them up on it in a couple of weeks or you will be going out of your head by the dating scan

Yeah will ring them on wednesday, thanks ladies :hugs: i think its because of my history that the midwife said they would scan me again no boter, because it was the same midwife who done the scan and delt with me after i lost max so its great to have the same woman be so kind and caring

My epu said once they scanned you and saw it was not an ectopic pregnancy they would not scan you again. I heard them turning away people on the phone because they had had one scan. I would DEFINITELY ring the epu and see if yours are more sympathetic - but be prepared they may say the same. I was chatting to the midwife there (my history is quite complex) and she was saying that they have to have this policy as at our hospital they are fully booked every day... I only got in quickly as he symptoms I was having was the same as I had when my waters went at 20.6 weeks (which caused the loss of my son 6 1/2 weeks later) and I was freaking out.

I think they should have a procedure in place where people who suffered loss can have additional scans, even if there is a fee (but less than private places charge) so often I feel I just need a bit more reasurrance (with me I need to know my fluid levels are fine its my constant worry).

I really hope that they do see you - or you get your private scan and that they give you a positive message and reassurance- anything that can give you peace of mind is well worth it.

Hi, if you can hold out till your 10weeks some research says if you see a heartbeat at 10 weeks then there is 99.4% chance that your pregnancy will continue. I've just had one at 10 weeks and it has made me feel alot better x

thanks for the replies ladies :hugs:secretbaby i've already been told they will re-scan me, i was wondering if i should take this offer up or is it maybe a better if i go for a private scan, but i'm going to give EPU mid-week x
