In about an hour we have our 12 week scan. They're also doing Nuchal Screen and they've already taken all of the blood they need for the test from me 2 weeks ago, so they should be all set.

I'm so anxious. I hope that everything is OK and that they don't find any chromosomal issues. I'll definitely get the CVS or Amnio done when the time comes if they find something odd. I just get nervous as I'm 38 & this is my first.

Did they do the Nuchal Screen on everyone or just people over 35? Have any of you guys gone through the CVS or Amnio? What am I in for? All of this is so new to me, so I'm just a ball of nerves.

Hi, hope your scan went well. They do offer the nuchal screening to everyone regardless of age, I was screened with my older children when I was a sprightly 20 yo and will be screened again as an ancient 41yo. Personally I won't be having the more invasive tests though.

There is a new blood test available in Australia (not sure where you are) called an igenescreen - it's pricey but apparently is 99% able to detect the different trisomys such as Down syndrome. I think I may look into that and then have cvs or amino only if I was in the 1% range. It my be available in other countries - I just read about it at the weekend.

How did your scan go?

Hi everyone!

Things went really well yesterday. They said the Nuchal Fold was actually small, so things were looking good and the baby was very active. They found some fibroids, so I'm going back in for a week 16 scan, which I don't mind as I get to see the baby again. It was moving around like crazy in there, I totally wasn't expecting that, it was kind of funny. :)

They took some blood to do testing for Downs and some other chromosomal abnormalities and they said the results will be back in about 7-10 days. Here's hoping that everything goes well. I felt really positive after yesterday's visit.

Yay, glad to hear everything went well!

I also have fibroids..turns out I have 9!

They found one large one and then 2 little ones. I've never had any kind of issues in the past, so they're thinking that all of those years on the pill kept things at bay. I hear that they sometimes will get in the way during birth and then a c-section might be needed, otherwise it's fine.
