Hubby and I haven't been trying to conceive for too long but I have been to the doctors to investigate why my periods only come every 4-6 months. I had an ultrasound/internal examination a while back, but they couldn't really see much, saying it was down to my weight. Yesterday I had one with a very full bladder and apparently she could see perfectly :happydance: and concluded that my ovaries were fine so no PCOS, my womb looked in good shape, the only thing was that my lining was 7mm which surprised me as I was expecting for it to have thickened and thickened over the time between AF! So the impression I got was that I have a hormonal problem that just stops things from happening down there... Or at least really slows them down.

I have yet to go back to the docs, but I was wondering if anybody has had a similar problem and what was your treatment? Will drugs like Clomid help?

The lining would thicken in response to estrogen, which is driven by the ovaries.
If your ovaries are not working sufficient for you to ovulate then it's probable they are not currently driving your lining to thicken either.

Clomid would be the typical starting point to try help you ovulate regularly, I would recommend a HSG though first, just to confirm your tubes are open and ok - many nhs Dr's insist on doing this first, but some don't.

You also mentioned your weight, if you are overweight that can directly affect your ability to ovulate and also to get pregnant, it might be a really good starting point before or alongside the clomid?

Good Luck :)

hi. I have a similar problem to you, my periods are very irregular. I had one at the beginning of feb, then end of june, end of august, end of september and then middle of november (but that was only because i took provera), in order to start my chlomid.

I had scans as you have, and they were all fine. I then had an HSG, which again was fine. i have also had bloods done which were all fine, apart from the one showing that I ovulate. So I am cd 13 of my first cycle of chlomid, and I get the feeling that as i am 'unexplained' chlomid is currently the only logical step.

Good luck

Hi I had a scan August 2011 and then another 2 in September both showed nothing. I then had my lap at the start of November and I had endometriosis. Unless there are large growths of it, it doesn't show on scans. Not sure but its probably the same for cysts, unless it is large it could get missed.

Just want to make you aware. You may very well just have a hormonal problem, but it pays to be informed. xx
