Hi. I've got a 4 year old, a 2 year old and a 9 month old at 24. I've been on the pill religiously for 8 months and have just found out I'm pregnant. I did a home pregnancy test as I suddenly just 'felt pregnant'. I did the test in the evening and the postive line came up immediately, way before the control line. I then took a clear blue conception indicator which came up 3+ which means I'm at least 5 weeks, but obviously I have no idea how far along I am because I was on the pill and never had a bleed in between. My first son was born by c section at 38 weeks due to a transverse lie with polyhydramnios. The c section went fine, although I lost a little bit more blood than I should have. I then unexpectedly became pregnant again when my son was 6 months old. The health professionals weren't happy because they advise a wait of 18 month in between c section pregnancies. I was then given my c section with my 2nd son at 38 weeks due to another transverse lie and polyhydramnios. This c section wasn't as straight forward as my son was born with sepsis and had to be in intensive care for 5 days. It was a very scary time and I was then told to wait 2 years if I ever wanted another child as it would have to be a c section. I was then given the pill a month after having my son and like I said I've taken them exactly how they should be done and not missed one and have become pregnant!!! I've been binge drinking 12 units daily relaxing in the evenings with wine after my son was born, I'm on 200mg of the anti depressant sertraline and obviously I've been on the pill. I don't know what I'm really looking for here, but I'm just confused about all of this and looking for advice...whatever it is. Thank you

Hi Katie

I read your post because I am scared too. I don't think I am in the right place to offer you advice, but I have just found out that I am pregnant with my 1st and I too have been drinking heavily prior to this.

I never thought I would be pregnant and have been boozing it up big style - so I can relate to your worries there. I have also being eating sushi, goats cheese and having spa treatments! I intend to speak to a midwife/GP asap for reassurance.

I'm babbling sorry - I'm still in shock too - I suggest that you make appointment to speak to your GP?

I know some people with loads more experience will come along and advise you better than I possibly could......

Ive sort of googled it to see if i could help you. From what it looks like is that consuming lots of alcohol can decrease its effectiveness and also if you have ever thrown up while taking the pill it can cause it to not work. Also some brands of the pill are "immune" to some while another brand works better.
