Let me start off by saying i think my fears came from my MIL who said my husband was over 9 lbs and had a big head LOL
I was a tiny baby - just shy of 5 lbs....

Also this may sound strange but i feel like if i have an 8 lbs-9 lb baby im scared i just skipped who whole tiny newborn phase...all my little itty bitty newborn clothes are up to 8 lbs and i would probably use only a few newborn diapers....I dont know why this bothers me but i feel like if he is 9 lbs i got ripped off! LOL I guess because they grow so fast

Not to mention the fear of being a first time mom and birthing such a large baby...I have not had an ultrasound so i dont know the size my tummy measures right on...but you NEVER KNOW!

when i was preg with my first my pre-pregnancy weight was 6st5- full term i was 8st.
I was consultant lead due to my small frame- drs swore my baby wouldnt even be 6lb.
How wrong they were

Nicholas was 8lb5 oz and the worst that happened to me was needing forceps and episiotomy which I couldnt even feel. I recovered really well too

as for the clothes... they may be 8lb but i can assure you that your baby will prob still fit in clothes upto 6lb, I know mine did.
And he was also in newborn nappies for a while so dont be fooled by the weight.

my second 8lb5 also, natural birth, no pain relief. Wasnt THAT bad and all that happened was a few grazes. That was actually worse pain than the first one and with the 1st Id had a 3rd degree tear due to episiotomy.

Thanks for the reassurance!
So many strange things going through the head of a new mom...

hun i dont get the little baby phase caus i do have BIG babies lol ds1 was 9lb10oz and ds2 10lb 12oz, but its not anything to do with the fathers genetics or birthweight in my experience caus my 6ft5 DH was only 6 lb 7oz at birth as i was a more healthy 7lb 6oz and its my mother who had the big babies my MIL had small babies none over 7lb.
big babies have lots of benifits they tend to sleep and eat better and overall are more settled in my experience both working with babies and being a mother. im betting this baby will be over 10lb,
one thing i will say re: labour is work with Gravity, being upright and birthing from on your knees or squating is much better with a big baby than lying on your back

I have 8 weeks to go and my bubba is already measuring over 5lb - I could end up having a 10/11lb baby - this is my first - but the one thing that the sonographer said was that there is no difference between a 6lb and a 12lb - the head remains the same size .......... the way that I look at it is that it will have to come out some how lol xxxxx

thanks for that tip, I have visions of me giving birth on all fours - I just feel that I would be more comfortable that way x

Dont worry, even 8/9 lb babys seem small but one advantage is bigger babys are easier to physicaly hold since there is more of them. You might not think thats much of a issue but when your trying to bath a slippy newborn the bigger the better lol

I feel exactly the same! OH was 10 and half pounds, I was just over 7.have a feeling this baby is gonna be big as was measuring big at my 20 week scan and my bump measured big my last midwife appointment.I know what you mean about newborn clothes,I haven't brought any and feel like I will miss out on the tiny newborn stage as will prob go straight into 0-3 clothes! Although i guess once baby here we won't care what size they are!

I feel the same way pennie. My uterus has been measuring 2 weeks ahead for the past 2 months. My doctor said not to except a 7 pound baby. I told him was 8lbs 3 ozs and my DH was 9 lbs 6 ozs he said that because of this my baby will most likely be big. I am odd and love the newborn phase and would like a little baby so it will stay little longer. But as I keep reminding myself it doesn't matter what size the baby is, as long as he/she is healthy I will be happy..
