Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has had issues with GD, group b strep and rhesus neg blood all at the same time? You see, these are my problems, all of which can apparently be life threatening to my baby, which has left me terrified and desperately wanting her out at 34 weeks for her own safety, which i know sounds stupid and selfish, but i just don't know what else to think right now. Has anyone ever been in the same position as me at all? If so, how early were you allowed to have your baby?

Thanks x

Hi, I don't have Group B Strep.. or as far as I know.
But I'm rhesus neg and I have GD.

If you had the Anti-D injection at 28 weeks (which you should have) then there is no reason that your baby would be in any danger. ESPECIALLY if this is your first baby as your body builds antibodies as it sees your baby as an "invader" but it doesn't actually do anything unless you have a following pregnancy with a Rhesus-Pos baby. Your baby could have the same blood type as you, anyway.

GD is risky and it scares me too, but they aren't gonna induce you at 34 weeks because of it unless there's a significant danger.. like the placenta stops functioning. That usually doesn't start to happen until 38 weeks+. I can see you're in the UK so your doctors are probably roughly the same as mine.. from the information I've gathered 38 weeks is the absolute earliest they will induce.. and if your baby isn't too big and the placenta is doing it's job, it's more likely to be 39 weeks.

From what I know, GBS isn't a reason to deliver early. And actually, pre-term delivery increases the risk of your baby developing the infection. BUT once again, in cases where induction is necessary.. it's 39 weeks. The only measure they usually take is to make sure you take antibiotics at least 2 hours prior to delivery and every 4 hours during labour. If they don't have reason to think you'll have a quick labour then all they'll ask you to do is go to the hospital as SOON as labour starts so they can begin antibiotics.

Honestly while all these things can worry us.. I'm not a doctor so don't quote me lol.. but I'm confident in saying there's no way they're gonna let you have her at 34 weeks. The guidelines for what 'term' is has now changed from 37 to 39 weeks and I can't see them letting you give birth 5 weeks early. The risks of that are much huger than any of these conditions which are honestly, all manageable.

Definitely discuss with your doctor though. They should be putting your mind at rest!

Good luck! xx

^ what she said. All of those things are very manageable and as long as they are managed well there is very little risk to your baby. The best place for baby right now is right where they are at. I know it's easier said than done, but do your best to relax. I agree that if you need induced it most likely won't be before 39 weeks.

I also don't have group B strep, as far as I know..? But I do have GD and am RH-. I am just now learning to figure out the GD thing and it's been frustrating. I guess because I just don't quite understand it.

Hang in there. HUgs
