I'm seeing a fertility specialist next week. I was wondering they do to test for recurrent loss? Does anyone know?
If anyone else is going soon do you want to be buddies?

I've been referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic in September. I've no idea what to expect. I've previously seen a gyno but that was for PCOS.

I'm expecting them to take a full history and bloods initially but other than that I've no idea what else they will do.

Hey ladies
So sorry that you are also going through all of this.

I had my tests for recurrent pregnancy loss at the beginning of this year.

They ask for a full history, when you losses were and how far along. They also ask about your menstrual cycle.

I then had bloods taken to test for all sorts of things : thyroid, APS, liver function etc.

I had a hysteroscopy. This is where they used a little camera to look at the shape of my womb and to check for any abnormalities.

We also had some genetic karyotyping done on the fetus as it was our 3rd loss in a row.

All of our results came back normal. So we are in the 'unexplained catagory'. Which was hard to take at first as we wanted an answer. But we have been told that we have a 70% chance of one day having a healthy pregnancy.

Next time we get pregnant we will be offered two weekly scans in the first trimester. Apparently better pre natal care can have an impact on positive outcomes. But we will see. There is nothing that can be done but we just need to try and try again.

I am 7 months past my last loss with no new pregnancy yet, but we are hoping that we can fall again on our own as we really don't want to go for more tests. We are going to try for another 6 cycles as it can take a long time to conceive again after a loss.

50% of couple who have recurrent pregnancy loss testing get no answers. Please be prepared for this as it is likely that nothing will be found. But if anything it may give you peace of mind knowing that everything is normal :hugs:

Good luck :flower:

Also. I forgot to say
There is an amazing recurrent miscarriage thread in the miscarriage support section.
The ladies on there are amazing and very knowledgeable

Thanks Trying4first1 - this is really helpful :flower:

I know from past history that I have a retroverted uterus (just found out on the off chance from previous scans) but I think that's quite common and hasn't been mentioned that it should cause any problem.

I've also had genetic testing carried out on myself but only for a specific gene type because my dad and sister are both severely disabled.

I'm waiting for the histopathology test results from my mmc to see if there was anything from that.

My m/c's have been spread out over the years and not necessarily in quick succession which must be so hard plus I have had a successful pregnancy but I took metformin prior to that pregnancy so I've no idea if that had any bearing on it or not

I'll have a look at that thread :flower:

Thanks Trying, that's really helpful. I am nervous that they'll say I have Asherman's syndrome because I had an improperly done d&c back in 2013.
What did they do for hysteroscopy? Were you asleep? I'm nervous because I'm a big baby....

Bumble! I can't wait to compare appointments! When do you go?

My appointment is not till September so a bit of a wait.

I've never heard of Ashermans syndrome so had a google, sounds pretty horrible and not great of the health professionals to be honest :hugs:

Glad I could and give you a bit of an insight.

A retroverted uterus shouldn't cause any problems with miscarriage as far as I am aware. I know it can sometimes make conception harder but not always. I don't think it matters

It's good that your genetics were all clear and hopefully the next lot of results will be good too. That's a very positive sign.

If you have had a successful pregnancy, hopefully yours was just bad luck. I hate it when people say that to me sometimes but there is always the possibility that it could be. Especially if the tests all come back clear. I'm starting to think maybe ours has been bad luck.

Maybe the ovulation induction drugs produced a stronger egg? I have heard that this can be the case. I know it helps you to ovulate earlier which normally means a better quality egg. Maybe there is something in it?

I was too worried about Ashermans as I've had two D and Cs, but found out I was all clear. Apparently it is very rare. Good news is it can be sorted out with surgery.

For the hysteroscopy you are awake. You have your legs in stirrups and they fill you up with water. They then pop in a very thin optical camera. They only look around for 30 secs to a minute. It doesn't take long.
I got told that it would be like having period pain but I am sure that what I felt were contractions. I've never had a baby but it's what I would inhaling them to be like. If I had to have one again I'm not sure if I could do it. Then again my pain threshold isn't great and I've never given birth so was a bit of a shock.
I don't want to scare you but that was my experience. Other ladies said theirs was ok

Hi TTC, have you had your appt yet? x

Hi bumbleberry! Yes I did have it thank you for asking! I'm sorry I didn't update sooner!

So the specialist was fantastic. I really like him. He is checking my hemoglobin A1c and thyroid antibodies. I'm frustrated the lab messed up and couldn't test the tissue from our recent loss! So no answers there! He thinks he saw some possible adenomyosis and scarring on the ultrasound he did so I am having the hysteroscopy and HSG done. I have to call when I start my cycle and they'll do them between days 5&12 two days apart. Then we'll talk again about what he thinks.

He said it very well may be down to bad luck!

How are you hanging in there?

Trying how are you?

I had 6 recurrent miscarriages between december 2012 and March 2015. Most before 6 weeks one after 8(like 8+3-4). Went to specialist had all test karotyping, hysteroscopy everything all came back normal. Took 14 months off took care of myself and did not try at all actually avoided pregnancy and then we just said hey let's try. We are now 17 weeks with no intervention besides prayer. Just wanted o say it's possible. Hoping I'm not stepping on toes. Good luck and baby dust ladies!

Ah that sounds really positive, though very frustrating about the lab messing up. Not being taken seriously is something I worry about.

I'm doing good, we are still trying in the meantime, trying not to obsess about it all!
