Hi ladies,

I have a ton of progesterone suppositories left over from my last IVF attempt. My luteal phase is really short... 9 days and sometimes I start spotting as early as 6DPO. This ties into poor ovulation. My diagnosis is a vague "ovarian dysfunction." Oddly, my progesterone checks in my LP are "normal" supposedly.

In either case, rather than let hundreds of dollars in suppositories go to waste, I want to take them to lengthen my LP. I'm doing some other holistic stuff to help my FP and ovulation as well.

Here's the issue, these suppositories are 200mg each--a pretty high dose. I was thinking of taking just one before I go to bed every night starting at 3DPO, but I read that you should take progesterone every 12 hours so your levels don't fluctuate. I really didn't want to deal with the mess all day long plus 400mg a day seems like a lot, though I know you can't "overdose" on progesterone. Is it ok if I take one a day at that high of a dose?

I was on 200mg every 12 hours with my clinic and they never said I had progesterone issues, it is just their standard dose. I say use them!

Thanks for responding! Do you think 1 a day is ok? Or does it have to be 2 (every 12 hrs)?

I think the suppositories are usually every 12 hours.

Mine are. (i take over 500 total a day, I take 200 in the AM and 300+ at night, it's a combo of different kinds)

I mean, just one at night isn't going to HURT obviously. But if you really think it's a serious progesterone problem, you may want to just do both.

What regimen were you on last time?

I supposedly don't have a progesterone issue (though I'd like to revisit that). If I do have issues, it's due to poor ovulation, not simply low progesterone though.

My past regimens were 50mg twice a day (12 hrs apart) when I did my IUIs and 200mg for when I did IVF.

Since I don't have low progesterone problems (generally speaking), I just wanted a bit of a boost, which is why I considered once a day to give my body a little help if needed.

I would do 200mg every night during the 2ww, if you get a BFP increase it to one in the morning and one at night.

Sorry, but I wouldn't self medicate.
My doctor has said that I would have to stay on progesterone and estrogen until 11 weeks pregnant (if that ever happens).... So I wouldn't self medicate because I wouldn't want to risk stopping too soon

Hi I was self medicating progesterone over the last 6 months or so whilst waiting to start a new cycle - clinic told me to do 200mg once a day and if spotted up it too twice per day.....

They agreed to give it to me whilst waiting and i'm sure if you got a bfp and rang the clinic they would prescribe you more to keep you going. Good luck!!
