There's only one strategy that's failsafe and it's hard: Make a budget and stick to it.
If you know you only have x amount of $$ to spend on food for the month, for example, it will give you some solid boundaries to work with and will make you plan.

Check out the rest of her site and blog - she's really good. She has a couple of TV shows here in Canada, "Til Debt Do Us Part" and "Princess" - all about household money stuff. Very popular.

Other tips for me:
I don't even go near the shops that will tempt me. I just distract myself with other things and don't go there! That includes sites for online shopping. There will always be some bloody sale that will sucker me, so I try to stay far far away!
For groceries: always shop with a list. In my case, I try to always shop with my husband. He does not distracted by great deals and he keeps me in check!

Ladyk Nooo don't tempt me! I'm waiting...lol not too hopeful as feeling a bit crampy like af is arriving. but then I felt like that before my bfp with holly so it doesn't really mean anything! Trying not to get my hopes up, if it happens, it happens. if not I'm going for a girls night out Saturday for a well deserved drink!!

Lady k I want sept baby as when they are a little bit older it's the summer so nicer to go out. When little it was lovely at home all cuddled up in the warm. If we both have the opposites we will have to swap clothes but JJ only has two pairs of shoes so far so maybe dissapointing !

Lbb - when thought dh was going to be out of work I planned the following.

Plan weekly meals with couple night cheap dinners such as spaghetti on toast. Shopped around for best deal on nappies and bulk bought (I found Asda little Angela cheap but great quality), order monthly shop online and buy frozen meat and poultry. Set £20 budget for weekly shop of essentials such as fruit veg bread and milk. Toiletries get from places like wilkinsons, reduced tv package and broadband width, if like takeaways fing cheaper alternatives eg curry do two meals pack which includes rice, 2 chick dishes, naan, onion bahji for £6.50 (nice as treat at weekend). When looking at prices in supermarket check value per quantity as some bugger packs or brands aren't always cheaper. Compare the Market for your gas and electric careful comparing like for like. Dont be afraid to ring utility companys phone water insurance asking if they can save any money.

Good Morning Chatty Peeps,

I am shattered, Rosie finally settled about midnight, then was us just b4 3am, then at 4.40, then at 5.30, 6.45, at which point i settled her and got up myself. She is hot, but wont take calpol, so i am going to get a medicine syringe today to dose her up see if i can cool her a bit than the half dose i am fighting with her to get in! I think it is just teething, she is hot, red, screamy, runny nose, snuffly, but not bad at times, like now she is sitting playing with her toys, so atm i think teething!

Yes Rosie still in rear facing car seat, and will be for a while, I got her weighed at mothercare and they said she is way off, and until her head reaches the top of the baby seat not to worry about changing her seat.

Ladyk, fab news about the room, yay get the pink out!!!

Willy play, yes totally normal, no never grow out of it!! Mind you if Rosie has her nappy off she has a good grab at her bits, if she was a boy and there was something more to grab for sure she would!!
I remember Ben as a toddler standing on the dining room table on tiptoes trying to see his willy in the mirror!!

Saving money,
I shop online so i only get what i need not get swayed by all the 'offers'
Don't buy anything you don't need, sounds daft but I buy so much rubbish if i dont think about it!
Go to sainsburys online and look at their feed a family for £40 a week ideas.
Make things from scratch if you can, cakes etc are much cheaper if you have a few ingredients, i used to make swiss rolls constantly as they are fatless sponges, and i always had the ingredients in!
Have a car boot sale, clear out all the stuff you don't use, and free add it, or car boot it, (ebay is too expensive now) you would be amazed what you can make. (really need to do this myself!!)
Can't think of any more atm, but have a load of them!
Its not mean, its thrifty!!

Right afm, dh wants to put christmas tree up, have a teething baby, a tired toddler, the others are fine! I am shattered, and hope that Rosie is feeling better for her party on Sunday.
I have pimped a Tesco cake for her Birthday party cake, it was white with roses in the middle, so i cut some icing butterflies and coloured them pink and put them on, i pinked some more icing and cut letters saying Rosie is 1, I really couldnt go with Happy Birthday Rosie, the icing cutters were a right sod to use so had to keep it simple!! I am making cupcakes with white icing swirled on top (any tips for that Blob?) then sprinkled butterflies on them and they are going round the cake, will post pics of the first bit later on fb!

Afternoon girls

How are you all today? Im feeling a bit urgh today! Been in a bad mood all day today and got to go to work in an hour Booooo! lol Feel tired and feel like AF is going to arrive It's not over til the witch shows her face, etc but I feel like I'm out already this month

Holly's started walking a lot more now, walks almost more than she crawls now, albeit a bit wobbly! She looks so cute!

Holly is so good at walking now Emzy.
Ollie will only entertain walking if I am behing him holding his hands. I am trying to encourage him to use his walker a bit more to steady him but he will walk in his own time.
Me and Ollie are both full of cold and feeling very sorry for ourselves I have loads to do before we go away on Sunday but just dont have the energy to do it.

Hope to watch the bomb squad tonight but if not it's on planned record. JJ slep through last night except for a five minute winge so think we are over the worst for teething for now . Apparently he's crying less at nursery handover too now , could be getting used to surroundings or the fact dh does the drop off, but so glad he's settled so well I actually think he likes going to the different nurserys more interesting ?? Right I'm off as been in the office since 7.30, have to wash bottles and get myself some dinner before bed.

Evening ladies! I can't believe I am managing to catch up quickly, I am so tired!!!! What a day! managed to get out of the house on time and get the kids to school, and me to work by 9 o clock! Have spent most of my work day sorting out my PC, the bloody NHS and their IT departments are crap!!! Work were lovely, as you will have seen on my FB. They put "welcome home" banners and balloons on my desk, and got me a choccy slab with "we've missed you Claire" on it!!! So lovely!

And the good news is, the boys were all fine. Jack loved his first full day at school, especially his school dinner!! Archie loved playing the big brother role, and Sam was fine with his Nana and Grandad. It was lovely coming home and seeing them all. Sam came straight over to me, leant on me and sucked his thumb, he was glad to see me. It was lovely. xx

Emzy, love the video of Hollybobs!! She's doing so well!! Hope your feelings of low mood and such are to do with a BFP and not AF! x

I'm taking Lilia up to my mums with me fir a couple of days tomorrow, visiting family while Wayne has his mess meetings and such. Plus it will be nice ti have a bit of time apart, we're snapping at each other constantly at the moment. Nothing in particular, don't think we're properly back to normal yet from him being away! And looks like he'll be going easy next September too.. My brother in law went to afghan tonight too leaving my sister with a 7 week old... Deja vu or what!!

I'm going back to the NHS tomorrow been off for 12 months!!!! Lily and Ben were as good as gold at the childminders today which was great.
