Hello
My DS is seven months old and has been on daytime nursing strike for a few weeks now. We occasionally have good days when he will have two really good feeds during the day, but is more common for him to have a few sucks here and there for the entire day. I'm exclusively breastfeeding and not pumping so he doesn't take a bottle and at the moment my supply doesn't seem to be affected. He's a bit better when we feed upstairs in bed during the day but even that is becoming less regular as well.

It could be a number of issues:
I spotted two teeth coming through yesterday.
He's on solids and has never been a massively hungry baby.
He has had an upper respitory infection (cough!!) for a few weeks (seen doc who said he is ok)
He's the most distracted and wriggly baby in the world - last week he was obsessed by my painted toenails and would crawl down the bed to examine and talk to them, then crawl back for a couple of mouthfuls before going back to my toes. Weirdo!

From what I have read, these strikes usually only last a few days but this has gone on for a few weeks. He is feeding well at night so may well be getting what he needs but this is not sustainable.

Hs anyone had experience of this at abut this age? Any advice?
I don't want to stop BF until at least 12 months so we need to get through it.

Thanks for reading x

My son has been doing the same for months. I think he is just very distracted. As long as your LO is putting weight on I think he should be fine. I was told to feed my son more solids when he doesn't nurse during the day. My son won't take food from me, he only wants to feed himself and he will eat tons that way (if he likes it).

It is a pain and it drives me crazy, but I have tried everything. I do go in to nurse him right before I go to bed to make sure he gets an extra feed in otherwise he will sleep right through and I don't think he gets enough BM except at night. Although when my LO won't nurse at all for a few hours I pump and offer it in a sippy cup. I usually freeze half and give him the other half.

Thanks for the reply.
It's so frustrating isn't it? My dd was such a good feeder - any time, any place, anywhere. Like yours he's quite into feeding himself and he will take some solids from me but I'm not sure if its enough.
We've been out for the day today and so he's had zero booby.

Hey ho, I guess he won't starve but it is looking like I need to get a pump.
