Sex aftter D&C -

OK - I have read a TON of stuff on the web - anything from waiting 1 week to 3-4 months!

my dr said 14 days, and most of what I saw said as soon as bleeding stops - which mine is tapering down and it's been one week.

I am thinking I am going to start on day 11 provided the bleeding is completely stopped by then, thats Tuesday, and today is Friday, so 4 days.

I really have a positive feeling about this, and think a couple of days (3) early shouldn't be a huge deal.

Any opinions?

also, because of my age, waiting any length of time is not advised. our midwife said we could start trying immediately - aside from the 14 day healing time.

Im sorry you had to go through this. I dont have any experience with this but from what I understand the whole wait time is in place to help your uterus heal and prep for an implantation. I think the concern is over not having a good implantation, and risking another miscarriage. I think I would do as advised and wait the minimum 2 weeks to let your lining build back up, as hard as that may be!

You only need to wait until the bleeding has stopped. Some Drs advise you to wait one cycle before trying again, but the only reason for this is, if you do fall pg again without waiting a cycle, its hard to work out dates etc. I think you should try again as soon as possible.
About 4 weeks after my mc and d&c my body seemed to 'try' to have a period but only managed to spot off and on for about a week, then I got a normal period. I think it was because my uterus had tried to build up a lining again, then tried to shed it, then tried to build it up again. Poor body got very confused.

Mellybelle I am not a doctor (but I am a nurse ) and there is a reason for not conceiving immediately after a D & C! Your body wasnt confused. There was no lining to shed for you to have a period, that is probably why you had only some spotting.

well I think I'll wait until about the 14 day mark anyhow. maybe the day before...

My problem is with my age, I cannot afford to put it off. If I were in my twenties, waiting longer might not be more advised (and NOT saying it's easier if you are in your twenties) - it's just that logistically, if you're younger, and have 5-20 years left of conceiving time - a month or 2 is less risky.

at nearly 42 - even a month's delay significantly affects my chances of even getting pregnant. My chances are just so slim no matter how you look at it.

what is so disconcerting is that there are SO many references out there - one of the biggest ones is that you are more fertile right after a D&C - so that is something I don't want to miss if possible.

I really appreciate all of the replies. I guess - at 13 or so days - I really cannot see 24 hours by that point having any significant impact on healing (considering it's nearly 2 weeks out from surgery).

So weighing the risks, at 13 days or so - the risk of missing the ovulation, vs having sex one day early - I just don't know. I think I will call my Doctor and see if it's a problem to go a day or 2 under the 14 days. We may not hit it anyhow - but I'm trying to stock the odds in our favor!

not to mention - you hear about so many people getting pregnant right after the D&C and not so much about people that wait a length of time.. that makes me nervous too..
