Just wanted to know ppls opinions on buying things right away to spread the cost. Is it sensible or better to wait till after the 12 week milestone?

I wouldn't personally by anything until you've had your 12 week scan, then buy the big stuff like pram, cot etc after your 20 week scan x

Hmmm... it is difficult, as there are loads of cute things you see and just want to buy.

However, I would advise to wait after 12 weeks, and youve had a scan (if possible)

I found out I was pregnant last year in November, and we went out and brought quite a few bits of clothing and stuff. But it ended in a miscarriage. We didnt see it as a waste of money, as we knew we would try again for another one.

So what we brought last pregnancy is sitting in a chest of drawers in baby's room, along with many other bits we have got.

Its all up to personal choice, and if you feel comfortable with it all. I dont feel anything about superstition and what not.

It is hard to resist though :)

In terms of spreading the cost, it's definitely better to think about it earlier rather than later. What we did was save up money from the day I found out I was expecting, and then by the time we had the 12 week scan we started buying bits & pieces of clothing, whilst still saving money, and after the 20 week scan we started buying the bigger things like the travel system :) x

We pretty much did this apart from i didn't buy anything apart from a vest until after the 20 week scan. After the scan i went out and bought some clothes in blue then when i got to 24 weeks i bought pushchair, moses basket, etc the HIP grant paid for my cotbed

i started quite early and had EVERYTHING by 25 weeks lol

sometimes you just HAVE to buy something lol

i dont believe its a jinx

xx

I dont think it will jinx you but I wouldnt buy anything before your scan... just incase :)

After that you still have 6 or so months to spread the cost

xx

Thanks guys loool guess that trip to mothercare will be postponed!

I found out just before 12 weeks but waiting until after my scan to start properly. Just personal choice, I don't think it's a jinx xx

i started b4 12 week had almost everything by 19 week lol had most giving to me tho xxx

I don't believe in jinxing but I would also say wait until the 12 week scan as its much less likely that anything bad will happen with the pregnancy and you can be more relaxed about the pregnancy, if you want to buy gender specific things then I would say wait until your 20 week scan before buying clothes etc :flower:

i started buying little things as soon as i found out at 5 weeks. i don't believe in all the old wives tales about not having the pram in the house and stuff.
xx

I didn't buy anything until after my 12 week scan, as we had gone through a miscarriage previously, so wanted to play it safe
x

I still haven't bought anything! Been given loads but not actually gone out to buy anything! I dont believe in jinxes i just cant seemt o get my head round the fact i will have a baby girl in 4mnths time!!!
However, saying i don't believe in jinxes i wouldn't have bought anything before 12 weeks just to play it safe..xx

I'm going to try and wait but if i see any great deals om things like nappies and wipes then i think i'll take advantage of that.

I haven't bought anything yet, I've had a good look around and I've got an idea of what I want, but when I asked my OH when we should start buying things he was like can't we just wait til like the week before and I was like NOOO!!!
I said imagine if I go into labour early and he said ok then we'll get a car seat and a moses basket and some clothes and wait for everything else :P
He said he's scared of something bad happening, he's so cute :) but I'm determined to start buying things soon! I'll talk him into it ... :D

We got clothes and sterilser and bottles little bits at 18-19weeks and not getting the biggys until 24weeks xxx

I don't believe in jinx, but I still didn't buy anything until I found out the gender.

i would start buying a can of formula everytime u go to the store or a box of diapers or something along those lines and dnt get all the same sizes range from 1-5, dnt do alot of one and no newborn cuz she/he may not fit in them and they grow fast :)

I didn't buy anything until the 20 week scan except for a lil white pair of converse booties after the 12 week scan! My mum had two losses at 16 weeks and she told me to wait, i guess this played a big part in it too though. But we just saved up money from when we found out and then went on a major shopping spree that day i still remember it, 30th oct 2009 lol!!! I counted down the days! We knew we were having a little boy and he was healthy so we went and blew about £800 in two days lol. I felt like a kid in a candy shop :D x
