should babies wear shoes once they can crawl?

No, it's best to leave them shoeless as long as possible. Though around 9 months I started putting soft shoes on dd when in the pram so she'd get used to the idea of wearing them when out and about.

My LO started crawling recently but I've never heard of putting shoes on for it. I just use socks or pants that have feet covers

Lily started crawling at 9 months, and I didn't bother with shoes then. But just recently she's walking along holding onto the couch/furniture etc so I got her feet measured at Clarks last week and got her some cruisers. X

I'm dreading having to get shoes on Owen's feet. I'm definitely a 'sleeper' mom. The wee baby clothes are cute but most days I don't bother. Its a hassle changing him back into jammies for EVERY nap attempt. And I figure, If I don't like sleeping in 'clothes' because they are uncomfortable, why should he?! Most days he is in a sleeper all day!

(I guess by the time he needs shoes, we'll be down to fewer nap attempts!)

We have some really nice sock-shoe things that are basically knee high socks with very soft suede soles. Our downstairs floors are laminate, and it's too cold for LO to go without socks, but then he has no traction for his crawling attempts. Upstairs on the carpet he has ok traction with socks, but we often just let him go barefoot as it's warmer.

We just got shoes for ds and he hates them! I wish I'd put him in soft shoes earlier so he got used to things on his feet. He now cries even if the shoes are near him. £25 down the drain!

I have put soft shoes on Harrison just for going out since he was newborn. Hate seeing babies with bare feet when out and about (just don't like it, no idea why). He either has bare feet or just socks at home though. Sometimes slippers if its really cold.

I'm sure just for outings putting shoes on wont hurt. There's nothing wrong with Harrisons feet

No shoes is best, even once they start walking. When you do need to put shoes on, like when they are walking outside, it's recommended to just use soft soled shoes like Bobux/Robeez. Preston is 18mo and just into harder sole shoes but they are the rubbery bottom that are super flexible, not typical hard soled shoes yet. He still has some Robeez boots too

My little man is 11mths tomorrow and has been crawling for 4 mths but I haven't heard he should have shoes. We've never put him in shoes yet, just socks when we go out somewhere but at home he tends just to have bare feet. He is walking with a baby walker and cruising round furniture for the last month or so and have kept thinking maybe I should get him some now.

No idea there was something wrong with using shoes. as my lo been wearing crib shoes since forever. he only wears them on occasion when were going out, and there always a size to big. so not worried about them constricting his wee feet.

I wouldnt put them on for crawling tho just coz i know he pull them off. Lol.

Its better for their feet not to wear shoes untill they are needed (when they are confident walkers.The reason is because babies bones are very soft and forcing them into shoes at a young age can cause them to be mis-shapen.Obviously soft baby shoes couldnt do much harm though.Owen started walking at 10 months but untill he had been walking 8 weeks,clarks said he didnt require shoes so he wore soft leather padders instead and I only let him walk where the ground was safe to do so.

Bubzys been wearing shoes for 3 months! Only when we go out to keep her feet warm, though But I do know that my nephew found it hard to crawl in a onesie, we thought he was a slow learner but it turns out he just couldn't move the way he wanted to! So perhaps no? Bare foot is best so they can get a grip on the floor.

We didn't buy shoes of any kind until my son was 15 months old and had been walking confidently for a few months. If it was cold, we'd put socks on; otherwise, he was barefoot.

thanks everyone, the reason i asked was a few people who i know who's babies are crawling not walking have shoes on I mean like proper shoes not soft ones

i've always put soft shoes and socks on lo when out and about. she had little booties until she was about 8 weeks old and soft shoes since. we are never out for very long so dont think its bad. at home and at her grandparents house i take them off and let her crawl around with socks on. however my lo has been taking her shoes and socks off herself since 5 1/2 months to chew on them so have to keep an eye on her when we are out incase she loses a shoe lol. when she starts walking confidently i will buy her first proper shoes from clarks.

Personally I wouldn't bother for cruising. Babies don't need them til they're walking outside!
