I currently have my baby on Nestle Good Start formula (I'm in Canada) and she's spitting up a lot. We had this problem a few weeks ago, but I bought the Dr. Brown's bottles, and they helped a lot. But now she's doing it again. Is this just par for the course, or should I try switching her to a different formula? If so, can anyone (Canadian/US ladies perhaps, since we don't have the same brands as you ladies in the UK) suggest a brand that is good for babies who spit up?
Thank you....

Hi

AFAIK (and I have friends who are FF in Canada) there isn't any formula on the Canadian market that is thickened like the ones here, although there are partially hydrolysed ones; but I'm of the understanding that Good Start is that anyway. If your baby is otherwise well it could be reflux; or some babies are just more prone to spitting up and need their feeds thickened; have you spoken to your doctor or paediatrician as they may have some suggestions. Sometimes under medical supervision they will give you guidance to thicken a feed with baby rice cereal; but it must be under medical supervision.

I use good start as well. My boy seems to spit up every couple weeks or so for a couple days at a time. He seems to do it when he's trying to eat more but I think his tummy isn't big enough.

I asked about changing as well and my dr said that you really only need to change when baby is very gassy, bad poops, and spits up lots. He also said that the regulations in Canada are so strict and tight that almost all formulas are made the pretty much thr same. (unless you move to soy).

Thanks ladies. Hana has an appointment with her doctor for a check up next week, I'll talk to him about it and see what he thinks. I'm hoping she's not still spitting up so much by then! :)

Hi hun. We have Nestle here, we tried 2 of their formulas before switching to Aptamil AR. He was always sick & his poo was green & smelly. I'm not sure which anti-relux formulas you have available where you stay, they'r great for babies with reflux. xx

partially hydrolyzed formulas are anti reflux; but the ones available in Canada are not thickened as well unfortunately.

my lo is sick most feeds. hes got slight reflux. The dr gave him infant gavisgon just to thicken up his milk. hes on cow and gate stage 1. Just try and keep your lo upright after each feed for about 20 minutes. Also you can put something under their mattress just under their head (the mattress now them directly). I use a baby towel and its fine. Reflux is just when their tummy isnt strong enough yet and normal. As long as shes gaining weight i wouldnt worry hun my lo is gaining weight good xxx

I had my daughter on nestle good start when she was born and she threw up alot, then we switched her to parents choice gentle formula and she hasn't spit up since.
