I will also be posting this else where as i am rather concerned but my local clinic is shut because of a roof leaking and I cant get thru to the health visitors by phone.

Mya has been on SMA hungrey baby milk since 8 wks and and despite trying to hold it off was weaned at 3 months (with medical advise).

Now she is a great eater, she has three meals a day and is even having finger foods and until a month ago was drinking all her milk feeds too.

My problem is, she now doesnt want her milk, I have tried decreasing the portions and varing the time between food and milk but nothing seems to be working.

According to the tin she is ment to be having 4 8oz bottles a day!

She will drink her morning one as she sleeps 12 hours throught the night but after that i am lucky if she will drink 3/4 oz a time of the others.

a genral day goes as follows

6.30/7.30am 8oz bottle
8.30 breakfast (baby rice with fruit or baby cereal)
10.30 offer 8oz bottle
12.30/1.00pm lunch (can be anything from a veg medly with baby pasta to scrambled egg and toast fingers)
3.00/3.30 offer 8oz bottle
5.00 dinner (main meal and a fruit pudding)
7.30 offer 8 oz bottle

as i say i have decreased her portions a lot and its not making any difference and she gets hungrey for her milk, she throws a paddy, but gets 3oz's into the bottle then refuses any more, even trying her in bits she doesnt want it?

what would you do?

I think she'd doing great.

My daughter is 10 months and does 4oz bottles except for before bed which is 8oz.

I sneak 2-4oz ounces a day by mixing it into her solids. Like her morning cereal you could hide 2 ounces of formula into it along with fruit. I do it every morning and evening.

Since you want to encourage more formula - I'd try offering bottles before solids.

I'd also mix smaller bottles more often and see if it peaks her interest. Instead of 4 8oz bottles try spacing out 4 4oz bottles during the day and keeping the morning and before bed ones to 8.

My babe's nutritionist says as long as she's getting 24oz she's getting enough and according to the can she's getting all the vitamins etc.

Maybe she doesn't need hungry baby milk now she's on proper solids it might be filling her up too quickly?

I've been wondering about switching formula too since T is on hungry milk & I wonder how he's ever gonna be hungry enough to get stuck into solids! It would be interesting to see what effect changing to regular formula would have.

thank you this is somthing i may try with her, i do use her milk to make her ceral about the 2oz mark as well, she wont have it when i make it just with water.

Thank you ladies so much for your replies, Its nice to knw the tricks and also what your little ones are doing milk wise, Mya tends to only drink 7oz in the morning so i think i will stick with giving her that and then maybe offer her milk in smaller quantaies.

As to the recomendations, with her weaning early and being on 3 meals should i be looking at an older age guild for her or do u think i should just try and make sure she gets the 18-20oz a day?

I think maybe i may be offering her to many bottles and so she is not wanting to have the milk as she knws she will get another one a few hours after her food, do you think may if I move the bottles aroung somehow but keep her bedtime one and morning one as it is ???

any ideas on how i could work her milk in a different way around my routine??? I think i should add this is a baby who doesnt nap AT ALL during the day, occasionally if in a car she will kip for 10mins but thats it, but then she does sleep through at night, could her not napping be affecting her milk intack or do u think its just her 3 meals a day doing it???

sorry for all the questions i'm just a little confused with it all lol
