when our HV visited us a couple of weeks ago, she suggested changing ollies milk from aptamil 1 to aptamil 2 for hungry babies but although its what the hv suggested, im not sure i should do it
Olivia is 9 weeks old now and during the day is still fed roughly every 2 hours(she goes longer when shes asleep though) she only takes 4oz at each feed though so its not like she is eating loads and at night she hs her last bottle at about 10.30ish and she sleeps right through to between 6 and 7am, she never wakes during the night to be fed.
The only reason i can think of the HV suggesting hungry baby milk is because when she was weighed 2 weeks ago ollie weighed 12lb 2oz, she was 7lb 3oz at birth so she had put on 1oz less than 5lb in 7 weeks , could that be why the HV suggested swapping over?
what would you do?:flower:

My lo has put on 5lb in as many weeks. She is on 6oz every 3 hours at the mo. Could it be cause she is feeding 2 hourly, maybe your hv is thinking of you having a bit of a break hun, an extra hour between feeds. My hv has never said anything about my dd weight gain, except that shes doing well and staying on target, not putting on too much either. I would say not to put her on the hungry milk unless you think she needs it, like shes hungry before feed time, maybe try stretching her to 3 hourly feeds, see how that goes. Sorry s cant help much.

Hungry milk doesn't contain any extra calories - it is just harder to digest because of the type of protein in it, so it makes LO feel fuller for longer. I really can't see why she suggested it TBH - some HVs astound me!

I don't know what else to suggest. She won't take an extra oz in her bottles at all? 5lb weight gain in 7 weeks is good!

hi, no she wont take an extra oz, she very rarely drains 4oz, we tried increasing the oz but she only ever took more than 4oz once but even then she didnt finish the whole 5oz.
i think we will just keep her on number 1 for now, i dont mind feeding her every couple of hours during the day, after all, its not like she is a pain at night, she always sleeps through so she cant be that hungry.and if her milk wasnt filling her up properly, surely she would wake in the night wanting to be fed

I agree with you hun, if she was hungry she would wake, as shes not then she cant be hungry. As long as shes feeding and shes happy and putting weight on ok, then i would worry about changing things, unless you feel you want to for a bit of a break between feeds.

I had my baby on hungry baby milk, and it really made no difference at all tbh other than made his sick, he's now on stage 1 again and drinking what he likes, when he likes and is starting to get his own routine hth xx

I would keep her on the 1st milk.

I have been informed that 2nd milk is just harder for their tummies to digest so it can increase their wind and make colic worse.

Your little one sounds happy and content and Mum knows best.

:hugs:
