So last night in the shower out of NO WHERE I started to feel a little tightness and soreness in my left shoulder blade. I haven’t done anything strenuous (I carry my purse and drive with my right arm) that I can think of but I stood in the warm shower for a good while because it was sore. Then, when I layed down on my right side to watch a movie with DH, a pain shot through my whole left shoulder blade and even made my arm kinda hurt. I started crying because since the pain was towards the middle of my back I couldn’t lay on my back nor my side. DH went and got some icy hot and rubbed my shoulder and I took some Tylenol as well. It felt like I had pulled something or a nerve was pinched by something and it just came out of no where. I had to fall asleep propped up in an almost sitting position with pillows against the headboard of the bed. I didn’t even wake up all night when I went to sleep (which is strange as well). I looked it up last night and all I can find on shoulder pain is if the baby is on a nerve it will hurt in random places and you have to reposition yourself to make them reposition (that and ectopic pregnancy which I obviously don’t have). Is this normal or has anyone ever experienced something similar? It even feels sore this morning and I noticed it hurts a little extra when I breath in deep. I have half a mind to call my doctor (even though I just saw him yesterday).

OK - I am sure it is absolutely nothing - but please go and get it checked out... for a very close friend of mine that kind of shoulder pain was the first sign of pre-eclampsia / HELLP... She was moaning about it for a few days before she went to her midwife. A quick BP / urine test will reassure you it's nothing but I'd hate not to mention it. x

Me again - found this for you.... see if this sounds like what you have.

Shoulder pain is often called “referred pain” because it radiates from the liver under the right ribs. Lower back pain is different from muscle strain common to pregnancy, because it is usually more acute and specific. Shoulder pain can feel like someone is deeply pinching you along the bra strap or on your neck, or it can be painful to lie on your right side. All of these pain symptoms may be a sign of HELLP Syndrome or a related problem in the liver.

What you can do...

Pain in this area should be taken very seriously; do not dismiss it and go to bed. Call your health professional immediately.

That’s exactly what it feels like. It is only REALLY painful to lay on my right side!!! I saw my doctor yesterday and they did a urine sample on me as they always do, wouldn’t they have caught something then? Of course they may not have checked for that specifically because I didn’t experience this until late last night.

I am going to call my doctors office RIGHT NOW and see if they want me to go to the ER and get checked. The pain is the lower part of my shoulder blade and it stretches from the middle of my back to my left side. While laying down on my right side I stretched my left arm up and OH MY GOD did it hurt!! But the pain was minimal when I wasn’t laying on my right side…..oh goodness I am scared now :(

I cant look at the website you gave me but I googled preeclampsia and HELLP and didn’t see anything under the symptoms that applied to me. they say upper right side but the pain is on my left side. I am still going to call my doctor and see what he says.

I've had this pain for about two months, it's a killer. There's nothing wrong with me re pre eclampsia as I've had my blood pressure and urine tested at least four time since it started as I'd been having 'funny turns' and was concerned about it myself, so I hope, painful as it is, it's the same for you =D

I talked to my nurse this afternoon and she said there is no way that I would have something like that and them not know about it because my urine is fine and so is my blood pressure. She said that the baby’s position can effect spots all over your body. She asked me if I was having any abdominal pressure or if there was any pain under my ribs and I told her there wasn’t and she suggested that I take warm showers, use Icy Hot and I can take 2 extra strength Tylenol for the pain and if it gets worse to call her back and she will get me an early appt with my doctor. This pain is something I have never felt before and its hard to get comfortable at night, so I hope it goes away soon:(
