Anybody have a clue what my husband will be able to claim

I work 20 hrs a wk we get working tax and child tax credit

He is on sick for carpel tunnel he can no longer do his job so there is noway he will be going back ...tesco wont help him find a job internally that he can do
He is so bad i have to cut his food up as he is in so much pain ...he as been on strong painkillers for over 2 yrs (morphine) and has had the op on both hands

At the moment he is getting ssp via his wages but if he leaves work cos he knows he wont be going back will he be able to claim or will he have to wait for tesco,s lay him off ?

the citizen's advice (CAB) wil be able to go through everything with you and sort out entitlements
good luck

what used to happen is that you'd go on Incapacity Benefit, but the benefit has now changed and I'm not clued up on it TBH.

Try applying for DDA though.

By the sound of it he should put in a claim for Employment and Support Allowance (Contribution based). I don't think you'll be entitled to the income related (IR) elements as you work more than 16hrs but if he's worked for the past few years he'll probably get contribution based. It could be worth doing an IR application anyway just to see if you can get anymore. You'll need your last 5 payslips if paid weekly or 2 if paid monthly I think for an IR claim (Can't quite remember off the top of my head). He'll also probably need something saying when his SSP runs out. You can apply up to 3 months in advance of the SSP running out. I'd advise getting the application in then because they have a huge backlog, so if you apply in advance it should be processed in time for when you need the money. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me. I work for DWP in the ESA department so may be able to help xx

Thanks how long do u get SSP for ? I think its 26 wks but not sure xx
