hi everyone.

well my sickness is now getting unbearable, i really don't like the thought of taking medication but i am starting to feel like i don't have much choice. just wondered what peoples experience with the meds was? what was your sickness like before, what meds you were prescribed and what it was like after the meds..

also please say if you are from england when posting so i know if its a medication thats available here, would still appreciate answers from those not in the uk!!

thanks and a h&h 9 months to you all xxxxx

Hi emme, I'm in U.K too, I'm 9 weeks pregnant and have already been in hospital twice because of terrible sickness. Had to go on a drip because of dehydration :(

I was a bit unsure about taking medication, but the doctor at A&E has assured me they are safe in pregnancy. She also said if I didn't take them I would probably end up back in hospital :(

They have prescribed me cyclizine and they are REALLY good. I've gone from all day nausea and vomiting, to feeling just a little bit sickly. I've been on them 5 days now and have only been sick twice :) I was been sick everytime I ate anything, so there is defo a big improvement. I'd definitely say give them a try! The difference has been amazing, I can actually get up and out of bed now! :)

thanks for your reply hun, this sickness is really getting me down. can i ask, do you still have the all day naseous feeling when taking the tablets? cause i do feel better once ive been sick most of the time! xxx

The tablets are really good for the nausea, I take 3 a day. Once I have had a tablet I'm usually (not ALWAYS) nausea free for about 4-5 hours. the difference has been unbelievable though. I've more or less been i n bed for 3 weeks (poor hubby has had to do everything)! At least now, i'm up and able to function as a human being again! lol. I would say defo try them and see how you get on. good luck, hope you are feling better soon xxx

they sound great, im sick, (no pun intended) of being in bed feeling sorry for myself, i've just rang my doctors, where i was told they don't do telephone appointments with doctors, i told her i cant even get out of bed without heaving or being sick, and she just ignored it saying you can have an appointment at 3.20 or 3.40, i told her there was no point, i don't even have the energy to walk anywhere nor any cash in my purse to get a taxi there, and she got really aggressive saying' whats your name, whats your name!' i just hung up in the end. i might try ring nhs direct to see if they can put me in touch with a doctor i can actually speak to

oh the joys of being pregnant!!!

i'm in the states so i'm not sure if it'll be the same. but when i had HG it started at 6w just throwing up a few times a day. then it got to where i was throwing up every 10-20 minutes. i was prescribed phenergan since i didnt have insurance right away. and at first it helped a little bit. then after awhile it started to make me more sick before it started to kick in. i liked Zofran. that helped a lot. then eventually that started to not help as much. i started getting immune to the medicines. i basically was in the hospital 4 or 5 times (once a week) for fluids and potassium.
at 12w it started to get better and they gave me a B6 IV drip taht day and it made me feel fantastic. i really think it was the 12w mark that made it start to go away since that's when most ms starts to go away since your hormones are leveled out.
:hugs: i really hope you feel better. the 1st tri is usually the hardest.

aww. i remember thnking it was never gonna end. mine was from weeks 6-12. then it came back during 3rd tri. just make sure that if it gets to the point of not even holding down water (which is how bad it got with me) you go to the ER for some fluids. :)

I'm sorry you got such a horrible response from your doctor's! :( I would ring nhs direct, that's what I did. They sent me straight to A&E (although I think that was because I had a bit of blood in my vomit). They said that was probably torn capilliaries in my throat from all the vomiting and retching. But if you tell them how bad you are feeling and tell them you are worried about dehydration, I'm sure they will make sure you get to see a doctor as soon as possible. Tell the doctor how bad you are and I'm sure you will get a home visit, Good luck hun.

I'm at the point of going to hospital today as I feel really rubbish. First I was prescribed peptac (like gaviscon) and that didn't work, tasted vile and made me throw up more! So I went back and was prescribed tablets called metaclopramide, which are an anti sickness tablet you take 3 times a day. At first that did help and I could keep fluids down but it has been 3 weeks and now my body seems to be immune to them as I take them when I should and within 10 minutes I'm vomiting again and the nausea is back. This time the sick is more violent and projectile, so I feel DRAINED from it. Can't get out of bed most of the time, despite feeling hungry, I know if I eat something it's going to come back up again so I just eat something that'll taste ok coming back up (bananas) gross sorry!
Will let you know what my midwife says today, as I'm going to see her in an hour to tell her whats going on...

hi guys,
it is really important to see someone if you are unable to tolerate anything....I work in ED (in UK) if you came in with these symptoms we would test your urine for ketones (sign of dehydration) if you have ketones in your urine your baby needs more fluid so we give anti sickness and some IV fluids and then let you go home with the anti sickness. There are loads of drugs available but cyclizine is the one most commonly used in pregnancy.

feel better soon

oh you poor thing, i know what you mean about feeling drained, i don't even want to leave my bed, the thought of walking 20 mins to the doctors surgery either being sick or heaving down the road makes me not want to go, just wish it would stop! please let me know what she says! good luck hun xxx

update...

well i saw the doctor, she was very reluctant to give me any medication, she kept saying 'i haven't given out medication for morning sickness for 4 years' like she wanted some kinda medal for it or something.

i asked her if she would consider giving me a prescription just incase it really gets to the worst point, like i explained, this afternoon was the first time in 4 or 5 days that i've even managed to get out of bed, she agreed and then went back on it, saying she wants to see me in another week to see how things are,

part of me can understand but the other part thinks 'you're not the one going through it' i know ALOT of women are probably suffering as bad if not worse than me, however it doesn't always feel like that when your head in in a bowl all the time!

i just prey that the sickness dies down after 12 weeks, so that best case senario i only have to put up with this for another month/ 29 days/ 696 hours/ or 41,760 minutes..

the countdown begins now..

to all other sickness sufferers, i feel your pain!!

xxxx

What medication has she prescribed you then sweetie? Tablets are much safer than dehydration, i have been in hospital on a drip, in the last pregnancy and in this one and it's not nice. I have tried Metaclopromide, Buccastem, Cyclizine and Ondansetron (Zofran). Zofran is by far the one which worked best for me but cyclizine also worked wonders compared to how i was. I really hope you start feeling better soon xxxx
