My baby is always sick, when I mentioned this to lady at the weighing clinic (think she is a nursery nurse or something) she said I could try Aptimal stay down milk but as I am using C&G at the moment they don't really like you to change brands! So I'm not sure if I should or not! She was a bit contradictive!

What would you do?

My baby was very sicky all the time, I tired aptimal, cow and gate, aptimal comfort, sma staydown nothing worked. I tried infacol, infant gaviscon, again nothing. I got so fed up with the docs not helping I went on the internet and researched his symptoms. Turns out he is lactose intolerant. He is now on sma lactose free and is hardly ever sick.

Do they maek C&G stay down? you can switch to that if it's available instead of changing brands. We changed formula several times before using Aptamil AR (Anti reflux) & it worked great for Omar's reflux xx

cow&gate comfort is identical to aptamil stay down; but cheaper. Its a thickened formula so worth a try. You can change formulas but just don't go changing every week or so; thats what is advised against.

Thanks for the advice. Are there any negative reasons for changing, even if I try the c&g comfort? I think I heard something about comfort milks affecting weight gain?

The only staydown milk on the Market is SMA!!! Macie was on just normal aptamil stage 1 and we had to change her to SMA for a staydown formula. The change didn't bother her in the slightest!!! Cx

cow and gate comfort is a 'staydown' milk as is aptamil; they are ALL thickened formulas; in fact cow and gate and aptamil comfort formulas are thicker than the SMA and you will need a fast flow teat for them. Also the aptamil and cow and gate versions; which are both identical; are partially hydrolysed; they are not hypo allergenic but if your baby has a moderate lactose or milk protein intolerance which is leading to posetting, constipation or colic then this formula should sort it out; whereas as far as I could tell from SMAs site; their version works just by being thicker and isn't recommended for anything other than reflux or excessive possetting.

I believe there may be weight gain issues associated with comfort formulas, my son didn't gain as well on a comfort formula because it filled him up very easily, he was never on a normal formula as I switched straight from BF to a comfort formula; but he still gained as much as he needed to stay healthy and he was a much healthier and happier baby so its up to you really. One of my friend's daughters was on a normal formula until she was 10 months and she was huge but miserable; had exczema and other problems; she was advised medically to try cow and gate comfort at 10 months and she was a whole different baby; she didn't gain weight as well but as long as they are gaining enough for their health and are happier and healthier then surely this is better. Anyway if them being sick is particularly bad to the extent they are not gaining enough nutrition etc from a normal formula; then its more than possible they'd gain better on the comfort formula and I have seen this as well...
