I know this is silly but I am stressing over weight gain. It seems silly to me cos I know it needs to happen and it a good sign that lbs are going up. I am 22 + 4 and I have gained 5lbs in total already. I feel so selfish for worrying about weight. How do I know whats baby and what weight is me? I need somehow to find a way of settling my anxiety around this as I am starting to obsess which isnt good for me or baby and especially seeing as those numbers have to go up as well.

Thing is, you cannot control what happens in pregnancy. You can eat healthy and do sensible excerise but you gain what you gain. Some women might gain half a stone and others 4 or 5 stone. Last time with my twins by 28 weeks I had gained a total of 9lb and had a nice tiny neat little bump. By the time I delivered at 34 weeks I had gained a total of 2st 11lb and I weighed myself 2 week after delivery and I was 12lb above my pre pregnancy weight.

I have no clue what I have gained so far this time as I have only been weighed once but I am having 1 baby and my bump is the same size now as it was at about 26 weeks with my twins. I am 15+4 weeks. I will end up huge but that is just what my body is doing this time and there is nothing I can do to control that so there is no point in me worrying now. I will think about it once I have had the baby.

I'm 22+1 with the same amount of weight gain. Trust me this is a really good amount. I had already gained about 7-10lbs at this point in my first pregnancy. As long as you're within the recommended range at the end of your pregnancy 25-35lbs for normal BMI and 15-25lbs for overweight, you shouldn't be worried about it. The weight always came on in spurts for me but this is a really promising start. At this point your uterus is about the size of a soccer ball with the baby, which accounts for a whole pound, plus all the fluid. Not to mention your placenta and all the extra blood volume. Not sure what the weight of all that stuff is at this point, but my dr. said I would lose 20lbs just having my first baby and I lost 15. I had a 6lb baby, so you would probably be closer to the 20lb mark if you have a 7-8 pounder. Despite the weight gain you could actually end up pretty close to your starting weight after the baby is born. That and your body changes. I remember like 6 weeks after I had her I went out and bought bigger jeans that fit me and by the time I returned to work I had already gone down a couple more sizes without any more weight loss, my body just kinda shrunk. It's all very scary but it does eventually go back to normal.

5 lbs is a really small weight gain for your stage! You have to remember that although the baby still weighs very little, your blood volume has increased massively, there's placenta and a football sized uterus full of fluid! I think as long as you don't pig out massively there's nothing to worry about. My sister in law had hyperemesis for her whole pregnancy and could barely eat a thing yet gained 3 stone by the end! Honestly, it's partly out of our control so there's no point in stressing.

Thanks so much ladies, I feel very selfish worrying about my weight when I know its pregnancy related. I think its because I cant control what comes on etc. Thank you for reassuring me I am ftm so its all new and scary for me!
