I apologise for the silly questions. LO is 8.5 weeks and today is the first day we've had success at feeding and I'm so nervous and have lots of questions to ask!

If he was still hungry, he'd let me know would he? He wouldn't sleep or play if he was still hungry would he?

How often should I pump while he is direct feeding? I don't want to risk losing my supply.

How many wet nappies should he have a day?

Is it okay that I get a slight 'pulling' sensation when he sucks?

Is it okay that my nipples feel 'odd' afterwards? Not at all painful, I'm just more aware of them.

Do many babies forget how to breastfeed once they learn?

How do I know when to stop - do I wait till he takes himself off and doesn't cry?

How many wet nappies should he have a day?again not sure, they just say plenty. i'd just go with however many you used to have!

Is it okay that I get a slight 'pulling' sensation when he sucks? i think so! should just be the sucking

Is it okay that my nipples feel 'odd' afterwards? Not at all painful, I'm just more aware of them. mine were always like that, as long as they dont hurt its ok

Do many babies forget how to breastfeed once they learn? not a clue tbh!

How do I know when to stop - do I wait till he takes himself off and doesn't cry? thats what i always did! in the olden days they used to say 10 mins one side, 10 the other and off, but its a load of crap that!!

Firstly CONGRATS on getting him latched!! You must be thrilled!! Long may it continue!!

He will let you know!! Just as he would if he were eating from a bottle!

Depends if you are wanting to try to get to fully direct BFing. I'd say to start drop a pump for each feed you manage.

How many wet nappies should he have a day?

As a guide, a breastfed baby should have six to eight wet nappies a day until around six weeks of age; and five to six wet nappies a day thereafter.

Is it okay that I get a slight 'pulling' sensation when he sucks?

Yes - just make sure he has a good mouth full of breast. Do you know how to check your latch?

Is it okay that my nipples feel 'odd' afterwards? Not at all painful, I'm just more aware of them.

Yes - they need to get used to it. Their suck is very strong.

Do many babies forget how to breastfeed once they learn?

Why do you ask? I dont think they 'forget'.

How do I know when to stop - do I wait till he takes himself off and doesn't cry?

Wait till he drops off on his own - this could take a loooong time until he perfects his technique so dont worry if you sit for an hour or more at first - he's got to learn how best to get your milk out.

Brenn always let me know when he was hungry and I think most babies are the same way.

How much you pump is up to you. Do you want to build a supply in the freezer for later? If so, then I would make sure he feeds well then pump.

Diapers, oh gosh, I don't really remember, but 6-10 I think.

I get that slight pulling sensation as well. It has never been painful, just an awareness.

I think the nipple thing is normal. I would always let mine airdry after Brenn feed, and they seemed to be more sensitive as well, but not in a bad way.

Forgetting, I don't think so, once they work out how to nurse it should be good.

I always let Brenn feed on demand and nurse as long as he wanted. If he fell asleep, I would remove my nipple. Sometimes he would root around and relatch other times not. I never minded his comfort sucking.
