silvercross heritage prams

ebay chick i love them soo much too but they are so unpratical now a days.

i might get my daughter a dolls one just to fill my need to have one.

I have just got my little girl one for christmas and she hasnt a clue:happydance:

I've done upholstery in the past so I might have a look at the viability of re-lining myself - the problem is that I have athe sun canopy for it too and that matches the current lining so I might have to re-cover that too :dohh: I really am not so keen on buying a new hood and apron ... they are in perfect condition externally - just a bit faded

If you put in faux leatherette or faux vinyl on ebay it is listed by the metre.£5 Its in various colours and textures. I have done lining the bed brilliantly but not too good at hoods. If you use the original lining as a template then it should go in easily enough. You will need strong clamps but make sure you add sponge to the edge else it marks the vinyl.

SHoe spray for leather or suede is good on recolouring hoods . The proper hood colour is the same thing but you pay alot and get alot less in a can

I pad out the inner pram body with sponge padding and spray glue into place. (my prams are old) then glue the vinyl and upholstery tack the edges into place.

I reenact for a forties group. Some of my prams are shown there. If you go on the link then onto Our Collcetions. Mine is Vintage Prams & Pushchairs. https://www.northernforties.org.uk/

If you need any advise or links by all means pm me. Id be happy to help

I've just spoken to Heritage Prams  and they can do a whole new hood and apron for £140, which isn't bad at all .... but I think I'm going to go for shoe dye and re-lining the hood myself before I go spending that amount on it.

I'm going to get DH to get it out of the loft this weekend so that I can have a good look at it and then, if it's OK with you, I'll PM you :) That link you first gave me has got me really hooked now :dohh::haha:

My son had a baby boy but would not let me take him out at all in any of my Prams . I was gutted at this. But he doesnt sleep much and my daughter in law said., as long as he sleeps he can go in whatever you want. So this weekend he is going in a 1940 Pram to Rufford Park 1940's event in Nottinghamshire. Im having a very late lamb at 46 so I will get to use my Prams daily.

Also Laura and Katie - they make lovely presents and your daughters will play for hours. Best advice never sell them, bubble wrap them with the hood and apron on and up. Grease the chrome and store in a dry place. These Prams fetch hundreds in years to come.

hi, please could you give me advice on relining! how to do it and what paddings best to use! thank you x

Hi only did it through taking off the original lining and carefully unpick the seams. Use these as a template ( allowing a little extra for precaution) I machined edges together and then tacked the edges back on with Upholstery tacks, also the bed edge too ( B&Q) I took out the old horsehair and replaced with wadding. It was all trial and error Im afraid. Its not easy and gets fiddly at times

However my Prams are 1930-1950 and have wooden or metal bodies. The 1960/70/80 prams are machine manufactured differently rather than by finished by hand previously. I dont know about these as I dont have any that age.

Good Luck if you have ago:thumbup:- be aware sometimes its cheaper to pay to have it done in the long run. I have made mistakes along the way to my expense unfortunately but I enjoy a challenge.

Also see links on page 2 as these have guides on some of the links too
