Skin cancer

My 6 year old son has had a patch of skin cancer removed from his leg today. It's still not certain if it has spread any further, yet.

It's so rare for young children to have it, I just feel like there's something I've done wrong, or something I could have done better. Does anyone have any experience?

Sorry I have no advice but I'm sure it is nothing you have done wrong! Hope it hasn't spread and he makes a full recovery. Lots of :hugs: x

Just wanted to send you some :hugs:

No experience hun but I would very much doubt it is something you have done. Hope he is ok and it hasnt spread, hope someone can give you answers your looking for :hugs:

Im sure there is nothing you could have done hun, please don't blame yourself :hugs: It's a terrible thing to happen but in no way your fault :hugs: I hope your son makes a full recovery soon xx

Dont blame yourself :hugs:
MIL had skin cancer removed from her ear cartilage last year, its not spread or returned.
I hope your son makes a quick and full recovery, lots of hugs to you both x

Is he in the sun much? Do you put sunscreen on him? He may need it daily if he's already had one skin cancer. Also, they can test his skin to see if any areas are already "pre-cancerous" and use a chemical treatment then. It's probably not a fun treatment, but better than having to treat full blown skin cancer.

No, but I know that with my family history and our very pale skin colour that we are high risk, so I certainly live in fear of it.
I am so sorry that you are going through this and hoping your son makes a very quick recovery! :hugs:

I dont think its anything you have done, My hubby had a very rare malignant growth removed of the top of his head when I was pregnant with Rhys, it didnt spread thank god

I know its a very scary time :hugs::hugs:

 I hope your son has a speedy recovery.
I have no experience but like the others said, don't put the blame on yourself. It's not your fault.

Thankyou for all the replies and well wishes. He's starting to feel a bit better.

He has very pale skin, so he's hardly ever out in the sun, on the occasions that he is, he has plenty of sunscreen on. The hospital mentioned having it on daily, but as of yet we've not really been outside much to have to do that yet.

If the skin is very pale even walking back and forth to the car can make a difference. Since he already has an issue it would probably help to just apply it even if you don't plan to go out. He may need D supplements though.

The hospital said the same at his check-up on Friday, so he's been wearing it everytime we've left the house since and has been taking vitamin D supplements.

Overall, he seems to be a lot better. Just waiting for an appointment to confirm whether or not the cancer has spread.

Glad he seems better. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you :hugs:
