Ladies….Help!** I can’t figure this out!

*So DS is almost 17 months.* Most of his top teeth are in and he’s starting to get more on the bottom.* So that’s symptom #1.

*Symptom #2 is tummy.* He’s been constipated since switching to cow’s milk.* The Dr is quite ready to call it an allergy yet….TMI…sometimes he goes like a bunny (little pebbles) sometimes he screams and it gets stuck…and other times it’s “normal.”** Day care and I are working on finding solutions….prune juice, apple juice, more veggies etc….

So sleep time….he goes down at 9pm every night.* Usually, he fusses at about 3am, just needing a recover or a gentle tap.* But lately….it’s worse.** Past few months, he’s been crying in his sleep at 2am…and the only thing that calms him down is coming into our bed (not something I wanted to start, but I need my sleep).* And now….11pm, he’s awake, crying, standing up screaming.* Bring him into the bed, back to sleep….at least for an hour.* He tucks his legs up in a ball…then pushes them out really fast.* He tucks blankets under his tummy, and flips about.* It’s like he can’t get comfortable…yet he’s sleeping.* He tosses and turns all night long.* If I try and put him back in the crib…it’s game over.* Fully awake and crying.

So, I’m torn.* If he wasn’t teething or having tummy issues, I’d like him cry it out.* But it breaks my heart to think he’s hurting and I’m not tending to him.

Thoughts?

I'm sorry to say...that just sounds like a phase. At his age, could likely be teeth or growth spurt or just general "toddlerness". Check with doctor if you're worried but I imagine he's just going through a rough patch! Hang in there and try to catch a cat nap when you can :flower:

thanks. I'm ok if it's a phase. just wanted to ensure I wasnt missing something obvious. we might move him to his own room tonight, I'll stay in there for a few days.

To me, it sounds like his constipation is bothering him. Raisins are the very best natural solution I know of. I also have to use Miralax on my girls when their poop seems too hard. I would bet that if you can get his gut sorted out, he'll feel a lot better.

Also, how much milk/dairy are you giving him? Perhaps it's too much?

ohh....he likes raisins. I'll try that.

he gave up liking yogurt. cheese...maybe half a slice a day, if that. milk....about 18oz give or take a day. usually watered down. that was my initial thought as well.

I hope the raisins work for you! If you do end up needing Miralax (per your pediatrician), know that it has been extensively used in kids and it has absolutely no ill effects. (Isn't habit forming, doesn't make your kid's gut "need" it to function, like some laxatives, etc.) It is incredibly gentle and easy to hide in any liquid. :)
